It’s time for another peek into a corner of our new home. Well, at least it will be as soon as I figure out the best way to photograph the tiny box room we’ve transformed into a cosy, colourful space for Jesse. In the meantime, I thought I’d share some of the inspiration behind this bedroom makeover.
Way back in 2012, when we re-decorated the children’s shared room in Exeter {which you can read about here, here, here and here}, I knew much of what we purchased would eventually be recycled in a new location.
Transferring the soft furnishings, art and accessories to this new space has worked really well and I think Jesse has benefited from having familiar items around him.
A Lovely Lark / Mokkasin
I decided to stick with pale grey walls, opting for the same Little Greene paint we used in Izzy’s room. Gauze Mid is described as a ‘lamp-black white’ and I really love its coolness. Along with our crisp white furniture, it provides the perfect backdrop for a huge injection of colour.
In such a small room, I knew we’d need to get clever with the storage. I can’t wait to share how we’ve maximised the space available in order to create a wonderful place to play.
Here are a few other things we’re keeping in mind as we finish off this room…
- It must foster independence. I want Jesse to be able to access his clothes and possessions with ease.
- The room needs to work for playtime, but also encourage sleep at the end of the day. It’s a tricky balance to achieve.
- As ever, we need plenty of book storage.
- It must feel personal to Jesse despite the similarities to the room he shared with his sister in the old house.
