Thanks to the magic of Etsy and a particularly talented individual (who I shall of course reveal to you all in due course), our Save The Date cards should be one of the first things to arrive on our doorstep in New Year. The design is very art deco in style and is based on an original greetings card from the 1930s, I literally can’t wait to see them, I predict much squealing.

The prospect of mailing these beautiful cards got me thinking about ways to prettify the experience further, you know, make them feel really special when our guests open them.

And this is how it comes to be that my mother and I will spend a large chunk of boxing day gluing paper doilies inside envelopes. Yes, I’m talking about our first big W.D.I.Y (wedding-do-it-yourself).

OK, OK. It may sound a little crazy, but doilies are big news in wedding land. Brides-to-be craft them into everything from bunting to table centre pieces to confetti cones. Seriously.I fear that decking out the whole of our venue in lacy paper would be overkill, but I think the tiniest touch might be quite delightful. Here, look, pretty….

I’ve been much inspired by Heather’s ‘For your tears of joy’ Save The Dates over on He asked. I said Yes. They represent possibly the most impressive piece of W.D.I.Y that I’ve happened to stumble across on the interwebz. Incredibly beautiful, no?

So, this afternoon I helped myself to 100 odd doilies in Wilkos and desperately tried to decide which colour envelope to go for. I could pick out the grey/pewter shade from our colour scheme or go for a basic brown envelope like Heather did, they do have that fabulous vintage feel to them. I also need to find something pretty to seal the envelopes with. I’m quite tempted by these actually. Ooooo… decisions, decisions!!

So what do we think ladies? Pretty… or pretty crazy? What would you line my envelopes with?
