Traditionally, champagne (or Bucks Fizz) is the quintessential ‘welcome drink’ served post-ceremony to bride, groom and guests. Although we contemplated sipping bubbly (or rather a nice prosecco) from some 1950s style champagne boats (as opposed to flutes) we weren’t really sold on the idea, particularly as Mr. LA isn’t even a fan of this tipple.
As the fella and I first met when we were working in a cocktail bar & restaurant, it seemed far more appropriate to serve the kind of drink that actually brought us together, and one that we would enjoy drinking. Initially, we were set on serving a house classic from the bar we worked in but we’re leaning more towards serving mojitos. They’re our favourite cocktail and I think the lime and fresh mint could look quite beautiful in the tumblers.
Our venue will provide no more than plain high-ball glasses so it’s down to us to prettify them for our guests. Loving cute handmade cocktail stirrers…

I’m definitely sold on striped paper straws. Stumbled across some that match our colour scheme perfectly on Papermash (amazing website full of beautiful, beautiful things… these won’t be my only purchase I’m sure).
I think they’ll work fabulously in the children’s drinks too. I’d love to replicate the dinky milk bottles pictured below, but some frantic eBay searching has revealed that they’ll probably be too tricky to source. We could always up-cycle some jam jars for them though… So, are we sold on the straw idea ladies? What drinks did you serve at your wedding? And most importantly, do you have a favourite cocktail?

I think a cocktail has to reflect the time of year, the surroundings and the mood of the event. What date and type of venue have you settled on?

Go for cosmojitos- they’re by far my favourite cocktail: delicious!
@L You’re right, I adn’t thought about the seasonal aspect. Mojitos may be a little too summery for our January wedding. We’re getting hitched at Pinewood studios, I def think cocktails suit the atmosphere of the venue and go with the vintage hollywood/1930s art deco-ish theme we’ve got going on!
I’ve never had a cosmojito… what’s in it??

It’s a mix of cosmopolitan and mojito- my 2 faves.
It’s basically made like a mojito but the soda water is replaced by cranberry juice and the rum is replaced with vodka.
How about making Moscow mules? Ginger beer, vodka and angostura bitters.
@L Mmmmmm… that does sound yummy, I’m a big fan of the Cosmo! Moscow Mule sounds perfect though, the ginger beer would be perfect for a cold winters day!

Mulled wine? Though that would mean buying glass mugs BUT you could decorate/ personalise these and then they could double up as favours.
I had though of that (or the winter Pimms you can get now) but the boy can’t stand teh stuff so I think that rules it out. I’m going to run the Moscow Mule idea past him later though, thanks for the inspiration! xxx
