I have to admit a veil didn’t feature in my wedding daydreams. I never pictured myself wearing one. They just seemed a little too…. well, ‘bridal’ I guess.
But then I bought my dress, and now somehow a veil just seems so right.
I might never have tried one on if it hadn’t been for the coercive powers of the two mothers. It certainly seems that ‘mother knows best’ on this occasion.
My first foray into the world of veils took the form of a stunning silk tulle, lace-edged, cathedral length number made by a company called Gillian Million who were exhibiting at the Designer Wedding Show that I attended at the weekend.
I’m very taken with this vintage inspired beauty, it looked fabulous pinned down low at the back my head and paired with the fabulous headband from Magpie Vintage that I purchased within moments of arriving at the show! There was just the right amount of amount of sparkle, vintage glamour and romance, for my tastes at least.
I intend to shop around a little more, ideally I’d like something with a scalloped lace edge to mirror the neckline of my dress (oooohhhh now there’s a hint!). In the meantime I’m pouring over beautiful images from the 30s that feature some incredible veils. I do so love the cap style that was popular at this time, so feminine and beautiful.
Did you or would you wear a veil on your wedding day ladies? And who wants to see the dress? For a limited time only perhaps, to help keep it all hush hush!

i didn’t wear a viel, although i probably would if i could do it again. Yes yes i want to see the dress!!
I wore a veil, I didn’t know there was any other option 🙂 Huge yes for seeing the dress!!! xxx
I want to see the dress!!! (More exclamation points are necessary, but I won’t put you through that.)
I think I would choose a veil just because I’m such an old-fashioned gal and love the idea of a tradition connecting me to all the other women of my family on that special day. Oh, is that terribly cheesy? Maybe that’s why I’m not married – LOL!
I’m thinking of maybe a birdcage veil? I don’t think a traditional veil is very “me”
@LissyLou My future MIL was saying the exact same thing at the weekend about wanting to get dressed up all over again! I said they should renew their vows.
@Rocaille Perhaps polish weddings/brides are much more traditional? I’m sure some brides over here would feel the same though, that a veil is a must. I think I shall do a big reveal this evening if I get a chance!
@Casee Marie Yes lots of exclamation marks are needed!!!!!!! I think it’s precisely because you’re an old-fashioned kind of a gal that you’ll like my frock! And it’s not cheesy at all!
@Magpie Sparkles I LOVE birdcage veils, I can def picture you in a veil like that, especially if your hair is still shorter. I tried on a gorgeous one at the weekend but it doesn’t really fit with the style of my dress. That’s the thing isn’t it, it all depends on the dress and I’ve def learnt that you don’t always end up with the frock that you think you will. So you never know, a ‘proper’ veil might seem right in the end.

I wore a veil and I wasn’t planning to either. I had it pinned in at the crown and it finished at the tops of my thighs. I never did the putting-it-over-my-face-as-I-walked-up-the-aisle thing though, it stayed behind my head the whole time. Show us the dress! x
