When you have small children some days can feel like a constant uphill struggle.
Baby is grumpy from the moment he wakes up, older sibling seems incapable of doing anything the first time she is asked and every single detail of your morning routine is turned into a battleground. You manage to get your first born to school on time and breathe a sigh of relief before attempting to go about your day, but every chore and every errand seems impossible to accomplish.
Baby tries to climb into the dishwasher as you’re unloading it, you turn your back for a second and he’s pulling knives out of the cutlery holder. The clean washing you’re trying to hang on the line outside gets dragged around the garden 3 times after it gets tangled up in the muddy legs of your crawling (almost toddling) baby.
During morning nap time you reheat your cup of tea in the microwave for the 3rd time that morning and wonder what you’ve managed to accomplish thus far. Not much.
Lunch time creates more work as the little darling throws his lovingly prepared meal on the floor. Half an hour later he’s decided he actually wants to eat it as he picks the vegetables out of the dustpan while you make a phone call.
Before you know it, it’s time for the school run. You summon every ounce of energy you have and try to occupy 2 children for the few hours that remain before you can banish them, ooops, I mean lovingly tuck them in and send them off to the land of nod.
On days like this you can’t pour yourself a glass of wine fast enough once their precious little heads have hit the pillow.
Other days are like today.
Today was blissful. Jesse was a big ball of smiles and giggles and Izzy was delightful, excited about the prospect of the weekend and in the mood to be helpful and obedient. The sun was shining, I was weraing a new dress and I baked (more on that later) which always lifts my mood.
After lunch we played in the garden. Jesse laughed really hard every time he splashed himself and I was very, very amused by the sight of his muddy bottom.

Today was a good day.

Ahhhh what a lovely post and Jesse looks adorable. Glad you had a great day, it’s so up and down when you have children but you sound like a great mummy xx
Oh sweetie, at least the good days like today MORE than make up for the tough days! Jesse is so adorable, look at that muddy little bottom, hehe! Love him 🙂
Looking forward to the recipe 😉

Ah, what a lovely post. The pictures of Jesse made me chuckle.
I’ve had too many days chasing my tail since we moved. The tea in the microwave made me laugh, though I’ve stopped making them altogether now! When you have great days though it makes it all worth while. The sunshine helps too!

Yes, children love water! I get mine to water the plants outside because I hate doing that and it keeps him occupied for ages. I remember not being able to even have a cup of tea! It was pure bliss when that phase was over and I could SIT for a couple of minutes and enjoy a cuppa.
Does my little eye spy a Lush pot there in the bath? That’s what I call real recycling! 😉 Jesse’s such a cutsie. xxx
Ahh yes the attempt at the hot tea, been there and done that.
Glad your day has been so lovely, I love the 2nd picture of your little one, can almost hear how hard he’s laughing!
Here’s hoping to more delightful children days (know I could do with some 😉 )
xx
@Nicoletta Up & Down is right, thanks for the compliment. I do try!
@Laura Of course they do! Even on the tough days there will be moments where I’m overwhlmed by how much I love these little people.
@Modesty Brown I can imagine the move must have been stressful, especially as you’ve got 3 little ones to contend with! The sunshine REALLY helps, I swear I’m solar powered or something!
@Rocaille Yes, it is a Lush pot! Our tub is full of empty ones, they make excellent bath toys!
@Cafe Bellini I look forward to the day that I can enjoy a cuppa properly again. Although, I’m not wishing away Jesse’s baby days as I’m almost certain I won’t get to do this again and hard work as it is, I love it!
@Shadow I hope you get a good day soon. It seems many mums can relate to my lack of hot tea… although I’m drinking one now so it aint all bad!
