The prospect of my baby boy moving out of our bedroom and into his own room (well… his sister’s room, they’ll be sharing for a little while) has got me thinking about how we’ll use the extra space that’s currently taken up by his cot, changing table, clothes, toys etc. etc.
We have a lovely large bedroom which was recently decorated. The walls are duck-egg blue and there are touches of ivory here and there. Having put a lot of time and effort into selecting the paint, curtain fabrics, furniture, lighting and bed linen I was really pleased with the way it turned out. It’s a very tranquil room and as feminine as I could manage under my boyfriends watchful eye.
There will be more than enough room for a vanity (or a dressing table as us British gals tend to call them) when the space is freed up. Gazing at these fabulous images of Ann Miller (possibly my favourite female dancer of all time) and Carole Landis has confirmed in my mind that I desperately *need* a more defined, and more glamorous, space in which to apply my make-up.
I do have a gorgeous bevelled mirror above the fireplace in our bedroom which serves me very well. I spread all my make-up out over the mantelpiece each morning and I have some beautiful glass jars that I use to store my brushes and a few other bits and bobs.
But I really, really, really want a 1940s/1950s vanity dresser.
This photograph which features a similar colour scheme to ours has made me even more determined to hunt down the perfect dressing table. It’s stunning, no? It may be a long hunt but it will be mine.

Ooooh that dressing table is gorgeous!! Good luck in your search. I’m still looking for my affordable french style one 🙁 xx
The color scheme in your bedroom must be gorgeous! I actually have a similar one but in deeper hues, it’s medium blue and creamy yellow. I’m so dreaming about my own vanity too, in our previous apartment in Vancouver there was no room for it at all as it was a studio, but this time we’ll have our own bedroom, so who knows… Good luck on the hunt! xxx
@Lollipop If I find a french style vanity along the way I’ll be sure to let you know!
@Rocaille Ooooooh your colour scheme sounds divine too. If you have the room it would be a crime not to get a Vanity!!
