Going Up…
- Beautiful clear blue skies, sunshine and weather mild enough for me to wander around university without a coat.
- Having a ‘smug’ day. I ate a healthy breakfast, made it onto campus before 9am, studied hard, resisted the temptation to eat nothing but chocolate all day, limited my caffeine intake to 4 cups of tea (as opposed to 15), sipped water regularly and was generally very productive. Go me.
- Lush Orange Blossom perfume. This scent is so uplifting and it’s the perfect fragrance for a sunny day. I only have the solid version at the moment but I’m definitely going to purchase an atomiser at some point.
- I bought a dress. And it’s red. There are few things greater than owning a new red dress, just the sight of it hanging in my wardrobe fills me with happiness.
- Roasted sweet potatoes for dinner. By far my favourite vegetable, I like to roughly chop them (there’s no need to peel), toss them in some garlic oil and sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon each of cinnamon and cumin before bunging them in the oven. The kitchen is filled with the most delicious smells as a I type, my mouth is watering and my tummy gurgling in anticipation.
- New boots. I liked this New Look pair so much that I bought them in black and brown. They’re super comfy, cheap and chic. I’ve been wearing them with both skinny jeans and dresses, they just seem to go with everything.
Going Down…
- The horrendous lack of sleep we had last night. Jesse (who has no sleep problems whatsoever) was awake from midnight until almost 3am. For. No. Apparent. Reason. Grrrrr.
- My complete inability to avoid library fines.
- The prospect of having to read modernist poetry. Ezra Pound is not my friend.
- How slowly my skin is recovering from its recent freak out.
- Failing to pack a lunch for myself to take to uni with me. Canteen food = grim and overpriced.
- Congested skin on my chest. I must have done something awful in a previous life. Why else would I have a spotty chest at the age of 27? I really can’t seem to shift it. Yuk.

I need a new dress and some boots! Last pair, I just shredded to pieces on a plane, I have no idea how I managed to do that. I find that exfoliating my chest helps a bit with any congestion, and also… not scratching! I just scratch myself when bored, very odd but true. Take care, hun! x
@Rocaille I’ve been exfoliating and using a tea tree body wash but it doesn’t seem to be improving at all 🙁 It’s really starting to bother me now.
I’m really interested to see how your no moisturiser challenge turns out!

Hi Audrey. I love your idea for sweet potato! Definitely going to try cumin and cinnamon – would never have thought of that combination! xxx
Audrey, presumably you aren’t going to the gym and then staying in your gym clothes for a while? Otherwise it could be a hormone issue and you can consult an endocrinologist (or a dermatologist, for that matter).
Lovely to hear you had such a productive day. I am trying to do the same. (I’m a PhD student.)
Incidentally, could we have another smoothie post? Would appreciate a recommendation.
Gotta love those sweet potatoes! Yum yum!
And where is this red dress? Pics!
oh great tip for sweet potatos, i’ve been googling ideas all week for them that aren’t so…sweet! must have a sniff of the lush perfume too, i love orange blossom fragrances.
great list! xo
Library fines, the bane of my life. I had to cough up (well the ‘rents did in the end!) £50 to my uni library before they’d release my degree – that was after four years of fine paying already! Never mind what the local county libraries have had from me.
If only I weren’t so scatty!
