Half term treats
Slurp! Apparently the best Strawberry milkshake Izzy has ever tasted. Next time you’re in Exeter you should head to my favourite vegetarian restaurant Herbies and see for yourself.
My babies on a walk to the quay. They look so alike in this picture!
Apple crumble cake pre-crumble. It was yummy!
Going Up…
- Half-term and all that goes with it. Although the start of the week was somewhat overshadowed by my uni deadline, once I’d churned out 2000 words and submitted a day early things really started to improve. The sun was shining in Exeter today and Izzy and I had a perfectly blissful time together. We shopped a little, went for lunch at a lovely local vegetarian restaurant and baked an apple crumble cake together {which was delicious and didn’t last long enough to be photographed once it came out of the oven}. Tomorrow we’re planning to see Kung-Fu Panda 2 at the cinema. Can’t wait!
- Finally found time for a trip to the hairdressers today. I was only after a trim and a tidy-up and the stylist actually did a really good job {i.e didn’t deviate from those instructions}. I was really chuffed when he complimented the condition of my hair and insisted that I really only needed an inch off as it was looking really healthy. Perhaps ditching the GHDs was a good move after all!
- My skin is behaving itself currently. This pleases me.
- MAC Face and Body foundation. Have I mentioned that I love this? Well I do.
- The prospect of a night away with Mr. LA this weekend. We’re off to Cheltenham for my friend Susie’s wedding. I’ve got my outfit all sorted and I’m really excited about getting glammed up and enjoying the celebrations.
- The arrival of a rather lovely Lush Retro order. I have a soft spot for a lot of their discon shower gels. Used Back to Breakfast this morning and it was heavenly, just like washing with lemon sherbet.
- We’ve been sorting our wedding invitations this week. I’ve deviated a little from the plans I outlined in my post about wedding stationary in that we decided that DIYing just wasn’t going to be possible due to my HUGE dissertation workload over the next few months. All is not lost though because I found the perfect design on Etsy. The lovely lady behind them has already emailed over our digital proofs and I get butterflies every time I look at them {which is approximately every 3 minutes}.
Going down…
- Worrying about money. I’m a born worrier and I’ve also been raised to avoid debt at all costs. The harsh reality of university education makes it unavoidable, especially if you throw 2 children into the mix {hello 2.5K childcare bill… I kid you not}. Still, I just can’t switch off my anxiety at times.
- I haven’t broken in my new shoes for the wedding this weekend. I see blisters in my future. Ouchy.
- Not knowing how to wear my make up this weekend. My outfit is very bright so I’m thinking neutral with a flash of shimmer to pick up the gold in my dress perhaps? But what shade of lippy?? Can’t figure out which colour to paint my nails either, especially my toes. I usually go for a classic red pedi but I’m wearing hot pink shoes so it might be too much. Suggestions, pretty please?
- I’m in a bubble today, pretending that my dissertation isn’t happening. It’s going to burst any time now.

I’ll certainly be heading to Herbies if i’m down that way. We were at our Fave veggie restaurant in Bath this weekend -Demuths x
I’m stressing about money too – I know the feeling. I just can’t ever stop thinking about the things that play on my mind – I’m a born worrier!
Ed’s been away for nearly 2 weeks and I’ve just gone to pot in that time. I like to think I’m quite independent and I can manage on my own (I can!) but it just goes to show how much I depend on him for emotional support because with him gone I’ve turned to: cheese, chocolate, pizza and wine! Hello 5lb weight gain!
p.s I think you should go with a “my lips but better” lipstick, a classic cat-eye flick and as you said, some lovely gold highlighter – you’ll look amazing! x
Your half-term sounds soo lovely! I’m a born worrier too, currently obsessing over all things related to my graduation…
I agree with Emma, a classic cat eye is always the best when in doubt! x
Ohh, there’s *that* cake. Your tweets about it had my mouth watering! The bubbas are looking squeezably gorgeous. Have a fab time at your friend’s wedding – I definitely agree with Emma’s make-up suggestion…and she’s right, you will look gorge. Hope to see a piccy or five when you’re back 🙂 x
Totally agree with Emma on the make up, teamed with the obnoxious lashes you’ll be a knockout 😉 Can’t wait to see photos 🙂
Your children are as beautiful as ever, I am itching to meet them, September can’t come fast enough!
It’s almost pointless me worrying about money at the moment…bottom line is we don’t have ANYTHING and are relying solely on handouts. It’s such a slap in the face 🙁 Money…makes the world go round, much as I hate that 🙁

your children are adorable! xx
The little ones are as adorable as ever!
As for the toe nails, maybe a very light pearly pink, red might be a bit too much… As for makeup, I am with Emma & Laura, “your lips but better” and a bit of a flick – luverly.
I too am a born worrier. I hate money issues, unfortunately money is something I have had to be aware of from day one. I was brought up with very little money, and to see how my parents coped has been a real inspiration for me.
Hope the wedding has been awesome 🙂

I make that exact cake! Finally got my Gran to divulge the recipe a few years ago and now its the only cake my sister and I make. Where did you get your recipe? I’m pretty sure what I make is only a deviation from the original, it certainly never tastes as good as when my Gran made it…but I think that’s often the way with ‘hand-me-down’ recipes! Hx
p.s. how exciting about your invites 🙂
