Better late than never!

As February drew to a close I couldn’t help but start to get excited about the imminent arrival of spring. I function much better in the sunnier months and I’m just itching to pack away my winter essentials and give my dresses, cute jackets and open-toed shoes an airing. The sun is shining down here in Devon today but there is definitely still a slight chill in the air. While we await the arrival of spring-proper, here are a few of the things that have been making me smile in February…

  • Spotting spring flowers with my daughter. We play this game on the way to and from school almost everyday. I love primroses, daffodils, snowdrops and crocuses. Talking about the blooms and how they represent the onset of the new season with Little Miss LA reminds me of my own mother pointing out wild flowers to me when I was a child myself.
  • Baby news. My (not quite) sister-in-law announced that she was 12 weeks pregnant with her 3rd child. We could hardly contain our excitement! She has had a horrendous time over the last year or so. She found out she was pregnant quite soon after I realised I was expecting Jesse, in fact she was only about 7 weeks behind me. We were so happy to be having babies at the same time. Sadly, when she went for her 12 weeks scan she was told the baby had died at around 8 weeks. It was awful. We cried and cried cried, I felt so guilty that our baby was ok and that hers wasn’t. As if that wasn’t enough, my SIL went on to have a further 2 miscarriages. This time the pregnancy has been very closely monitored with my SIL undergoing scans every two weeks. I’m so glad everything is ok and that I’m going to have another little niece or nephew by the end of the summer. We also heard that some close friends are expecting their 1st baby together. There must be something in the water!!
  • Marilyn Monroe. Obviously, she always makes me smile but this month I watched ‘How to Marry a Millionaire’ for the very first time and I adored it! Monroe plays a kooky, glasses-wearing model who is so worried about wearing her specs in front of eligible bachelors that she spends the entire time walking into things! If you’ve never seen it hunt down a copy asap, it’s guaranteed to make you smile.
  • Nigella’s Curry in a Hurry. Cook it, it’s delicious.
  • Rediscovering a few gems in my wardrobe. I’ve been wearing some gorgeous shoes I picked up in Office about 3 years ago. I loved them so much at the time I bought them in two colours!

You may notice a distinct lack of make-up and beauty products on this list. I’ve spent most of February feeling totally uninspired in terms of make-up. I seem to just look knackered all the time and I’m so rushed in the mornings that I’ve been being a bit slack. I’m a bit sick of my wardrobe at the moment too. I’m reaching for the same drab outfits week in and week out. Hopefully, I’ll manage to regain a bit of my fashion and make-up mojo in March.
