… ya know, aside from all the, er, English
1. When I decide I’m going to do something, I bloody well do it.
2. Postgraduate study is intense and unrelenting. If it doesn’t hurt, you’re probably not doing it right.
3. Despite all the hard work, student life is pretty fabulous. A few seminars a week, nice comfy sofas to snooze study on in the library and a Starbucks on campus. They even give you money off in Topshop.
4. I am totally incapable of dressing like a student. I cannot bring myself to wear my pjs to lectures, I don’t own a hoody and I’m allergic to Uggs. I much prefer gliding around the library in a nice frock, heels and red lippy. Overdressed, moi?
5. I’m going to have to find a new way to indulge my stationery fetish now that I no longer require an endless supply of pretty notebooks and folders.
6. Stress wreaks havoc on my immune system. I have never been as ill as I have over the last year. Flu, chest infections, general exhaustion … you name, it I’ve had it. Bleugh.
7. I’m rubbish at looking after myself when I’m under pressure.
8. Mr. LA is fabulous at looking after me when I’m under pressure.
9. Maintaining a good relationship with your fiance while you’re studying/working part time/raising two children is incredibly hard.
10. But it’s worth it.
11. I am my harshest critic.
12. This is both a blessing and a curse. I may berate myself for perceived failures, but its the same mindset that drives me to work incredibly hard.
13. I’m useless at returning things to the library on time.
14. Having a cute little boy in a buggy with you when you go to pay your library fines usually results in them being revoked. This is one of the few perks of being a student parent.
15. Writing a 20,000 word dissertation is really, really hard.
16. I can write a 20,000 word dissertation.
17. There is no such thing as too much tea or chocolate when you’re writing a 20,000 word dissertation.
18. When people tell me I’m a super woman it makes me cringe a little.
{19. But secretly, I know they’re right.}
20. Achieving something people assumed you never would may be the greatest feeling in the world.

P.S This post was very much inspired by Laura of Lollipop Loves . She posts a similar list each month which I love to read. Her blog is FABULOUS, go there now.

Love the list and congratulations on finishing it!
Ioving the list too…I may have to steal it as a blog device…credited of course! Nice to see someone else shares my love of stationery but has no strong need for it and also is rubbish at taking libraru books back! Maybe next time I’ll take one of the nieces with me and see if it works in public libraries too!
I’m the same when it comes to stress and hard work…it tends to come out in similar illness and also berate myself probably a tad too much…which is why I never attempted post grad study!
Very much miss the comfy sofa/coffee drinking/discounts in shops! Although do not miss the feeling of being overdressed!
For about the hundreth time, congrats on finishing!
You are absolutely inspirational to me. I do wonder sometimes how you manage to do it all and still stay glamorous.
All the best!
You are just fabulous, aren’t you!
@my spare thoughts Thank you so much. You’ve been such a big support on twitter, it has really been a big help at times.
@confusedbrit Hehe! Yes, there are definite perks to student life! Thanks again for all the congratulations!
@mari Thank you! I can honestly say I haven’t been at all glam in the last few weeks of finishing my dissertation. I’ve been living in my pjs and hardly wearing any makeup! Thank goodness it’s all over and I can get back to normal!
@anna and the ring Oh shush! You’re always making me blush you are! {But thank you, I FEEL pretty fabulous this weekend!!}
I love Laura’s lists too! Really enjoyed this post 🙂 xx
Ooh thanks for the linkage sweetie. Love your list – it’s a lot more meaningful than mine!
I am SO PROUD of you for completing your dissertation – not fair that you’re uber glam on campus though 😉 I’m so excited for you, when do you find out how you did?
Inspirational woman of 2011 goes to Franky 🙂 xxx
