Christmas was something of a turning point for me in terms of my choice of nocturnal attire. It all started when 2 close friends were kind enough to give me some truly beautiful nightwear as gifts.
First, I received a set of monochrome satin pyjamas from La Senza. The wide legged trousers and slightly boxy shape of the shirt make me feel very Katherine Hepburn-esque…
… and maybe even a little Coco Chanel (or Audrey Tautou, depending on which way you look at it)…
The second gift was a little slinkier, but still terribly elegant. The camisole and shorts set is in a vivid shade of aubergine satin with a hint of black lace here and there. The vintage feel of them makes me feel a little like a 1930s Hollywood starlet every time I slip them on. If glamour is a state of mind, well… every time I wear these,in my mind, I’m Ginger Rogers.
Both these items managed to combine comfort and glamour so effortlessly that I felt inspired to overhaul my entire sleepwear selection. I’ve banished the faded jersey, weaned myself of Mr. LA’s old hoodys, hidden all the oversized band t-shirts and started building a collection of jammies that I can be proud of.
It will be slow process. The luxurious fabrics and vintage inspired designs I have in mind are a tiny bit more expensive than, say, your average pair of Primarni PJs, but worth every single penny in my opinion. I don’t really subscribe to the concept of disposable fashion when it comes to my day-to-day clothing, why should bedtime be any different? I’ll be happy with a a select handful of well-made, classically beautiful items that make me feel fabulous.
I recently treated myself to a pure silk set from La Senza called ‘Evita’ (which has sadly now disappeared from their website). The fabric feels sensational next to my skin and , don’t laugh, but I’m convinced I sleep better when I’m wearing them. La Senza currently have an amazing range of indulgent nightwear, with this Ava set and the Vintage Silk chemise being my personal favourites.
I’m hoping these will satisfy my craving for bedtime glamour while I save my pennies/drop enough hints for an amazing pair of Agent Provocateur jim jams…
Obviously, these sorts of PJs aren’t really designed with warmth in mind. Now, I HATE to be cold. Really, really hate it. So a snugly robe is essential. I have a delightfully fluffy, and satisfyingly cheap, number from Peacocks which I adore).
The secret is to buy black. Everyone looks good in black don’t they? And it doesn’t detract from the luxury of what I’m wearing underneath. I also have a super soft, slinky kimono for the warmer months. I picked it up last summer from the Autograph range at M&S and it’s served me very well ever since.
I draw the line at slippers though. No marabou mules for me. The more comfy/snugly/ridiculous they are, the better, if you ask me.
At the risk of getting just a little too personal, what do you wear to bed ladies?! Do you have any tricks for feeling instantly more glamorous? Are you keen to ditch the jersey and slip into something a little more fabulous?
Wishing you pleasant dreams, whatever you’re wearing!

Ooh how strange I was just thinking yesterday about opting out of my Primarni fleecey PJ’s and getting something rather more slinky, like a short satin nightie from La Senza or some wide bottomed pj’s like you’ve described so now I have to do it to feel more glamourous.
Wasn’t it Marilyn Monroe who said all she wore to bed was Chanel no.5!
I like a little more on myself although could wear it along with my fluffy pj’s.

@Shadow I LOVE that Marilyn quote!! I have to admit, I always have a spritz of perfume before bed, adds to the glmaour (especially when I’m sans make up)! The first thing Mr. LA says when he comes to bed is ‘you smell nice’, it’s a sort of catchphrase!

I really need to get some more stylish/sexy nightwear- I wear baggy grotty bottoms and baggy T shirts, so I look awful. I’m sure my boyfriend would appreciate something like the ones you mentioned!
@Primp and Preen Hehe! Although I did this to please myself, there certainly haven’t been any complaintes from the Mr! NEXT have some lovely things, I spotted a slinky balck robe on there earlier and some lovely super-soft slips with a satin trim too. You should invest, it does wonders for you confidence.

Pre baby, I went to bed in my birthday suit (or er missus!)… post baby, I wear my trusty Primarni PJ’s…which will hopefully be relegated to the bin (or at least the maternity clothes bin bag in the loft!) once the baby weight is gone! xxx
i am addicted to buying sllep wear!! i have allsorts – silly tinkerbell nighties, cosy cath kidston pj’s and sexy little summer slips. I have found some great bedware in TkMaxx in the past and i love H&M for nightware too.
My fave nightgown is a big fluffy white M and S Per Una one. And in the summer i have a beautiful floral one from TkMaxx – its by a comapny called moon river
I sleep in my birthday suit. Now there is something you never really wanted to know about me! But you did ask!
Although when I stay away with friends or family I tend to wear PJs, except when I’m at my parents. I discovered this weekend staying with SIL and children that PJs are a lot easier on already in the morning when smallies want to come running in at 7am…
