Brands take note, if you’re looking for a foolproof way to get a purchase out of me, name your product after my idol. I just can’t resist an Audrey reference.

Laura Mercier’s Audrey was the lippy I almost wore on my wedding day. My talented makeup artist Katy suggested it at my trial and I loved it.

Although described as a ‘warm pink rose’, the colour definitely leans a little towards red. It also bears a striking resemblance to the shade worn by Hepburn herself during the infamous wedding dress scene in Funny Face

The formulation of the Creme Lip Colour is fabulous, the texture divine, and I’d even go so far as to say it is one of the most comfortable lipsticks I’ve ever had the pleasure of wearing. It manages to be both creamy and relatively long-wearing, and doesn’t leave my lips feeling even remotely dry.

However, as my wedding day drew nearer, something about my choice began to niggle and fill my mind with doubt.

I wore Audrey round the house, trying it on for size if you will, but something just didn’t feel right. It’s a wonderful lippy, don’t get me wrong, but it just wasn’t red enough.

So, on the morning of January 14th, I thrust a black and gold tube of Chanel lipstick into Katy’s palm and didn’t look back.

Since then, I’ve discovered Audrey is perfect for everyday if, like me, you like to wear red, er… everyday.

It’s glamorous, but subtle, and leaves me feeling polished and presentable rather than overly made up. In short, it manages to bring a little sophistication to the school run, without alienating the other mothers.

After all, it’s Audrey, not Marilyn.

So lipstick lovers, what shade of red do you favour for everyday wear? Are you tempted by Audrey? Which other colours should I investigate from the Laura Mercier range?
