I am absolutely exhausted this evening. Too tired to post the FOTD I photographed yesterday. Baby boy woke us at 5am, screaming as if he’d never been fed in his life. I bundled him into bed with me and dozed while he fed. He woke again at around 6.30am, seemingly ravenous. It wasn’t long before his older sister was awake and we finally dragged ourselves from under the bed covers at 7.30am.

Mornings like the one we had today often prompt me to reminisce about our lives pre-children, when Sunday mornings meant a lazy lie-in, cups of tea and the Hollyoaks omnibus.

A couple of other things we kissed goodbye to when we decided to produce our offspring:

  • Being a one-load-of-washing-a-week kind of household. I do a MINIMUM of two loads of washing a DAY. Laundry consumes me. I am in a constant state of loading, unloading, folding or putting away clothes.
  • Long, leisurely meals. We do still mange to eat out quite a lot. I’m a firm believer in the need to teach my children to behave impeccably in restaurants. The only way they can acquire this skill is by being exposed to this sort of environment from an early age. People always comment on how well behaved my daughter is in restaurants and I’m sure it’s because she was dining out long before she could even sit up! However, meals out are always a gamble. Take too long and the children will get bored and irritable… too quick and you will get indigestion. However, the days of slowly working our way through a three course meal are well and truly over.
  • Travelling light. Whenever I get an evening off from the children and I’m presented with an opportunity to dress up I always, without fail, opt for the smallest possible bag. This is because the rest of my life requires me to haul a humongous pile of (essential) crap around with me. I love my Pink Lining nappy bag but lets not kid ourselves, a nappy bag is still a nappy bag.

Upon realizing that I have had my children quite young (I was 2 weeks past 21 years when I discovered I was pregnant with my daughter) people often assume that I must miss partying, drinking etc etc. I can assure you that it’s the more mundane, simple things in life that me and my boyfriend hanker after!

Of course, given the opportunity, I wouldn’t change a single thing.
