I am constantly drawn to the beautiful array of quads and quints that the beauty counters offer up to us. Why? Because I’m a sucker for the beautiful packaging they always seem to be encased in and I love experimenting with them and trying to create different looks from the colours they put together.

Chanel

L-R: No. 14 Mystic Eyes, No. 92 Bleu Celestes, No. 93 Smoky Eyes

I love these quads, especially Mystic Eyes which I find has the best colour pay-off of the three. It’s perfect for creating a nice neutral eye for daytime or something a bit smokier for the evening. I was drawn to the smoky eye palette because I love wearing silvers and greys. I do find the shadows to be quite sheer in this one though. Bleu Celestes was a birthday present and probably gets the least love of the three.

MAC

L-R: My own quad with Print, Vex, Parfait Amour & All That Glitters, MAC Trip 5 Cool Eyes with (L-R) Taupeless, Behold, Chillblue, Peridot & Black Tied (exclusive to Duty Free last summer), Shadowy Lady Quad with Light Fall, Smudged Violet, Deep Truth & Shadowy Lady (from Cult of Cherry collection)

I bought the Cool Eyes palette in Bangkok airport without really swatching the shadows. Although the colours look lovely, three of them are Lustres and really difficult to work with. It probably represents an expensive way of owning Black Tied as that is the shadow I’ve used the most. I waited with great anticipation for the COC collection, the quad wasn’t my only purchase. Deep Truth is one of my favourite MAC shades and I know I’ll get a lot of use from this once autumn rolls around again.

Lancome

Colour Design Sensational Effects Eye Shadow with (clockwise from top L) Positive, Model, Best Dressed, Lezard, Excursion, Floralesque & (centre) Daylight

Don’t you just love a decent GWP (gift with purchase)!? I’m yet to try these out but I quite like Lancome shadows and the colours I have swatched are pretty.

Dior

5 Colour Iridescent Eyeshadow No.259 Electric Lights

For me, this palette = love. The shadows are a dream to apply and the colours are gorgeous, very summery. My favourites are the deep, dark purpley-blue in the centre and the turquoise on the bottom left which has a gorgeous duochrome finish. I definitely want to purchase more of the Dior quints.

Illamasqua

Sirens 4 Colour Powder Eye Shadow Palette with (clockwise from top L) Morn, Luminescence, Fate & Spellbound

This palette was pretty much all that the Illamasqua counter at Selfridges in London had left from the Sirens collection by the time I got the chance to check it out. Luckily, I adore it. The pigmentation of the shadows is fantastic and the shade Spellbound is fast becoming one of my favourite gold shadows. Richie Nickel has a fantastic tutorial for this palette on his youtube channel WhatStyleIsToNickel.
