Audrey Tatou for Chanel No.5

Aren’t perfume adverts strange? Aside from those that offer a small sample or have some kind of scented strip, they have nothing to do with smell. I suppose they’re selling an image. Perhaps it’s an image of how we think we’d like to smell, for example sexy or summery. Or maybe it’s an image of how we might want a smell to make us appear to others. Either way, I’ve always loved the design and artistry of perfume adverts. As a teenager, I used to tear them out of Vogue magazine and use them as posters in my bedroom! The iconic Chanel No.5 was one of my favourites and the recent buzz around the new mini-film starring Audrey Tatou prompted me to have a hunt for some of my other favourite images.
