For me, one of the greatest beauty perks to accompany the changing of the seasons at this time of year has to be the easing of one’s strictly regimented grooming regime. Because, as we pack away our skimpy summer clothes and usher in the altogether more forgiving thick tights, snuggly boots and cosy knits, the need to primp and preen becomes less and less.

The waxing can wait, we tell ourselves, and the razor lies untouched on the side of the bath. With no need to reveal our tootsies in sandals, we go weeks, rather than days, between pedicures. Body brushing becomes a distant memory, far too ghastly to even consider in a bitterly cold bathroom in November. Many even abandon the fake tan *gasp*.

However, this year, in what can only be considered a gross oversight on my part, I rather inconveniently scheduled my wedding for January 14th.

With less than three months to go to the big day, I’m acutely aware that I simply cannot ‘let myself go’ this winter. I may be sat in my dressing gown and fluffy slippers as I type this, but in a few short weeks I’ll be walking down the aisle in a figure hugging wedding dress and a pair of Jimmy Choos. Now is not the time to be slack with the beautifying. No sireee.

I suspect this {rather unwelcome} realisation may have played a part in my latest Lush love affair….

I had long dismissed Volcano foot mask as one of Lush’s more ‘gimmicky’ products. You know the kind… all talk and no action {yes, YOU, emotibombs and toothy tabs}.
I mean, who needs a mask for their feet? Your face, maybe. Your hair, at a push. But your feet? They’re just fine with their usual scrub and a healthy dollop of foot cream thankyouverymuch.
But I have to hold my hands up and admit I was wrong on this occasion. This product has bought a whole new level of luxury to my foot pampering exploits. Here’s what Lush say…

‘Kaolin cleans and repairs. Pumice helps you to rub away dead skin. Papaya has an enzyme that digests dead skin and loosens it for removal. Tomatoes are deodorising and cooling. Menthol, lemon and cinnamon stimulate circulation and give a very cool feel to the skin’s surface. All that is cleverly blended together to create a mask you can use regularly to keep on top of dry feet that tend to split, tired hot feet that have been standing all day and feet that have been shut up in shoes and need to breathe and cool – leaving you ready to step out in style.’

After washing my feet and patting dry, I smother them in the zingy, minty mask. I quite like the scent. There’s a hint of cinnamon in there too and it’s the kind of smell that implies a product will have some clout. It feels scrubby as I apply, but not too coarse {indeed, if I’ve been really slack with my foot care, they might require a bit of a going over with another product afterwards, I adore Lush’s Stepping Stone}. I take a moment to massage it into my problem areas {mainly my heels} before slipping my feet inside two plastic carrier bags and knotting the handles around my ankles.

Yup. That’s right. I said carrier bags.

Cue the least glamorous photograph ever featured on Loveaudrey…

Don’t enlarge. I have stubbly ankles.

I leave the mask on for 10-20 minutes, all the while fielding comical jibes from Mr. LA about my appearance.

While it’s doing it’s thing, my skin feels cold and tingly, but not uncomfortably so. I really wish I had discovered this product while I was pregnant as it seems to do wonders for the circulation in my feet, it really gets the blood flowing.

When I finally wash the mask off, the skin is left soft and smooth. My feet really do feel like new, and using this regularly has all but cured my dry heels and their tendency towards splitting {my own fault, I’m quite partial to walking bare foot in the street when the children play outside our house}. It will be a definite repurchase when the dinky pot finally runs out.

And besides, I kind of like schlepping around the house with my feet wrapped in carrier bags. Who wouldn’t?

Are you a fan of Volcano? Any foolproof foot care you think I should try to get my feet Choo-ready in time for the wedding?
