I’ve had such a wonderful weekend and I’m in the mood to ramble a little so I thought I’d offer up a few more words than I usually manage on a Sunday evening. I am slightly delirious with tiredness so bare with me…

I spent the whole of Friday in the post-grad common room at uni preparing a presentation for next week as well as reading (and loving) some of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short stories. It was a beautiful spring day with buckets of sunshine and clear blue skies, campus looked really beautiful. The common room is south-facing and bathed in sunshine for most of the day, which certainly seems to help my motivation levels. I was pleased to have had such a productive day but my brain felt pretty frazzled by the time 4pm rolled around and I wandered up to Jesse’s nursery in a bit of a daze.

We were joined by one of Mr. LA’s friends for the weekend and I met them both back at the house before heading off to a rather important appointment with Jesse.

I finally plucked up the courage to let the hairdresser give his golden locks a proper trim. Jesse was so well behaved as he sat patiently in the chair, although he was slightly alarmed when he noticed his hair falling down around his shoulders. He kept saying ‘oh dear, oh my goodness’, much to the amusement of the rest of the salon!

I was worried he might be a little unsure of his reflection in the mirror afterwards but his face lit up and he kept stroking his newly clipped hair with glee. I really can’t get over how much he looks like a proper little boy now…
Once we had packed the children off to bed for the night we opened the beer and wine and I cooked a huge bowl of pasta (Jool’s Pregnant Pasta from Jamie’s Meals in 30 minutes… it’s seriously yummy). We rounded off the evening by chilling out on the sofa and watching ‘Mean Streets’. I’m really loving 70’s cinema at the moment, we’ve got ‘Raging Bull’ lined up for this evenings viewing.

Saturday was blissful. The children slept to a little past 7am and woke up in a wonderful mood. I sat in the dining room with them, sipping tea while Jesse sang me Queen songs (he’s a big fan, his rendition of ‘We Will Rock You’ is too adorable for words) and Izzy drew endless pictures.

My Aunt arrived around 11am and was followed shortly after by my Mum. We left the boys to their own devices and headed into town for an afternoon of yummy food and shopping.

We each enjoyed an enormous plate of salad at my favourite vegetarian cafe Plant, if you ever happen to be visiting Exeter cathedral be sure to drop in, it’s practically right next door.Izzy with my Mum (on the left) and my Aunt (on the right)
My lunch. It didn’t occur to me to take a picture until I’d polished off over half of it. It was delicious.

I tried on some stunning shoes in LK Bennet. Behold the prettiness…I’m not normally a fan of ankle-straps but there was something about these that made me want to dance around the shop like a bit of a lunatic. So of course I did.

I tried on a beautiful suit too (the jacket is here and the skirt is here). It was very Grace Kelly/Audrey Hepburn-esque…I’m pretty smitten with it, I think it could be a perfect ‘going-away’ outfit for the night of the wedding. They only had the skirt in a size 6 and I’d like to try it in an eight, just to compare, before I take the plunge. Let’s hope they have it in the Westfield branch when I’m in London next week.

I prepared a vat of chicken curry for us in the evening, accompanied by brown rice, vegetable samosas and naan bread. It was yummy!

After a couple of glasses of wine my Mum, my Aunt and I headed off to the local arts centre to watch The Unthanks. I wouldn’t necessarily class myself as a fan of folk music but I really enjoyed myself, the girls had incredible voices and there was even some Northumbrian clog dancing, which was much more mind blowing than it sounds. I think this was my favourite track from the evening…

I didn’t make it to bed until after midnight in the end, so I was pretty bleary eyed when the children dragged me from my bed this morning. My Aunt and I sat in our pyjamas, drinking tea, and talking about everything and nothing while the children played quite contently.

I spent the morning studying while everyone else went out for a walk and a cheeky Starbucks. I cooked chicken pie, smashed carrots and peas for lunch (again) and we all ate until our tummys were fit to burst. I do love that content, well fed feeling you get after a decent Sunday lunch. Bliss.

Once we had said goodbye to my Aunt, Izzy headed over to a friend’s house for the afternoon. The rest of us decided to make the most of the glorious sunshine and wander down to the quay for an ice-cream.

The rest of the afternoon was fairly uneventful. I caught up on washing, drank more tea and indulged in a little blog reading. The boys are currently watching a manga and we have plans to order a pizza later. All in all, a fabulous weekend, I think you’ll agree!

Apologies for the somewhat mammoth post! I hope your weekends were equally enjoyable. What were the highlights?
