- Waking up with a teeny tiny hangover. I finished my MA on Friday and finishing an MA calls for lots of wine, Chinese take away and a late night lying in bed with Mr. LA chatting about the future, no?
- Snuggling in bed with the children. Everything felt different this weekend. There was no rush, nothing to tear me away from Izzy and Jesse. So I made the most of those sleepy cuddles under the bed covers. It was wonderful.
- Eating porridge and drinking tea.
- Taking a long, hot shower.
- Wearing proper makeup again. My daily face has been incredibly minimal of late, and I simply didn’t bother on the days where I didn’t leave the house {which was more than I care to remember}. It’s wonderful to pop a bit of blush on again, curl my lashes and apply some lippy.
- Finally strolling into town for a quick food shop.
- Realising that when you have a toddler with you a ‘quick’ food shop just isn’t quick enough.
- Preparing an indoor picnic.
- Marvelling at how much more enthusiastic children are about food when you let them eat in on the floor of their playroom.
- Being instantly transported back to my youth with one taste of a Frazzle. One question though, how can something that looks and tastes exactly like a bacon strip {in crisp form} be suitable for vegetarians?
- Settling down on the sofa for an afternoon of movie watching. We draw the curtains, fill huge bowls with toffee pop corn and pretend we’re at the cinema.
- Cooking bombay pie for dinner. I tweaked a recipe I found on the wonderful food blog She Cooks She Eats to create what was basically a huge samosa. It was delicious!
- Struggling to relax once the children went to bed. I was beginning to worry I might actually have forgotten how to. Eventually Mr. LA intervened and forced me to park myself on the sofa in front of my ER DVDs.
- Having a lie in. Mr. LA took the children downstairs when they woke up and then, when I finally emerged an hour later, he cooked me an omelet. He is love.
- Loving the sight of Jesse ‘cooking’ in his snuggly onesie {you can’t beat Primark’s fleecy jammies for little ones at this time of year}.
- Eating chili bean soup and toasted bagels for lunch.
- Cleaning the kitchen. I mean properly, stupidly cleaning the kitchen. Scrubbing cupboard doors and dusting the washing machine type cleaning. It was incredibly therapeutic.
- Taking a long walk down to the river. It was a beautiful day. Cold enough for a coat, but not freezing, with just enough of a gust of wind to leave you feeling really refreshed by the end of it.
- Spending the rest of the afternoon in the kitchen. I made fish pie {Jamie Oliver’s from The Return of the Naked Chef, it’s the best} and a huge plum and pecan crumble for pudding {a Nigella recipe from How To Be A Domestic Goddess}. It was fabulous, and perfect for our first Autumn weekend.
- Trying to remain calm in the face of a huge tantrum. Jesse spent most of dinner on the naughty step and missed out on pudding. Did he care? Did he heck.
- Having second thoughts about my no smacking policy*.
- Putting two very sleepy children to bed.
- De-potting my MAC shadows. Finally. I’ve been wanting to do this for the last year. Quite strange to actually have the time to do it.
- Planning an evening of blog reading from the comfort of my bed.

* I joke. Just in case you were about to call the NSPCC or something.

Sounds heavenly… much more fun than the trip to the tip and the studying I’ve been doing!! (I have achieved though).
And blimey Charlie.. is it just me or is Izzy getting tall?
Looking forward to catching up once I’ve finished my studies! x
I’m trying to work out which bit of the river that is. You’ve inspired me, I’m going to do a picnic with the kids, they’d love it!
My husband and I are both vegan and are terribly addicted to bacon crisps as they are, weirdly, among the few types of crisps that it is okay for us to eat. 🙂
Ah that all sounds lovely, I bet you enjoyed it so very much after how crazy life has been for you. 🙂
cute, i love indoor picnics. Once i got my eldest to decorate an old sheet for an indoor picnic – it was brilliant, he drew all the Mr Men on it. It was so good he did t.shirts too!!!
@m4dswine She IS getting tall! And it’s all in the leg, just like me! She’ll hate me when she tries to buy jeans in a few years!
Very much looking forward to catching up soon lovely 🙂
@Charlie Hmmm.. hard to describe where it is! We do the same walk whenever we go down to the quay and it’s kind of a big loop. Love it though, especially at this time of year when it’s not as crowded down there as it is during the summer. Indoor picnics are great, especially if they’re big enough to attempt making their own sandwiches. Loads of fun!
@madameguillotine Izzy is the stricter vegetarian of the family and she was over the moon to be able to eat them! She’s very set on her beliefs but I think she still misses meat occasionally so she enjoys the {faux} bacon flavour!
@MissisG It’s very strange to be free of all the stress. It’s going to take some serious getting used to!
@LissyLou That sounds like a great idea, I’ll have to dig out some old bedding for them to scribble on!

I can’t believe I haven’t commented on this…I’m so sorry! I read your blog religiously, as you well know, but I obviously reply in my head, and have missed out on a lot more than I thought 🙁
I adore these photos, Izzy is just breathtakingly beautiful you know (hardly surprising with parents like you and C!), and Jesse is just the most handsome little boy (not ever, because, you know, Jamie is my no1!). I’m so excited to be seeing you all!
