- Snuggling in bed with the children.
- Trying to keep the little ones quiet while our house guest slept in the front room.
- Failing to keep the little ones quiet while our house guest slept in the front room
- Cooking fried eggs in an attempt to make amends.
- Enjoying multiple cups of tea and a long, hot shower.
- Packing Izzy off to a birthday party.
- Strolling into town to visit the recently re-opened Royal Albert Memorial Museum. The museum closed for major refurbishment a few years ago and, as it was a favourite haunt of ours when Izzy was little, we were really excited about finally being allowed back in. They’ve done an incredible job with the place and Jesse had a fantastic time exploring the different galleries and exhibitions. I’ll be heading back with both children later this week.
- Eating too many mince pies.
- Watching Christmas movies. We made our way through The Nightmare Before Christmas, Father Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street.
- Finally hanging our Christmas wreath on the front door. We just need to get our tree up and we’ll be all set.
- Putting two sleepy children to bed.
- Enjoying my first Baileys of the season. It just isn’t Christmas without it.
- Cooking and eating tray-baked chicken, crushed new potatoes and creamed spinach {from Jamie’s 30 Minute Meals}.
- Drinking too much red wine.
- Completing the epic online food order for Christmas.
- Stretching my mind by watching Inception. Amazing film.
- Debating Christmas songs with Mr. LA. He reckons there are only about 20 well known festive tunes in existence {and therefore not enough to justify a whole radio station dedicated to them… hello Smooth Christmas}, but I beg to differ. What say you?
- Loving Mr. LA for letting me lie in.
- Eating scrambled eggs on hot, buttery toast.
- Preparing a fish pie {Jamie’s again}.
- Greeting Mr. LA’s family as they passed through Exeter on their way back from Cornwall.
- Hiding Christmas presents.
- Sitting down for lunch.
- Getting goosebumps at the thought that the next time we’ll all be together is at the wedding {4 weeks!}.
- Settling down to some wedding DIY. Next up on the to do list is 150 drink flags, made with just a little help from Etsy seller HeSawSparks.
- Bathing and bedding the children.
- Inhaling the aroma of Nigella’s Praised Chicken as it bubbles away on the stove and looking forward to a late supper.

That spinach & chicken looks so tasty! Definitely putting that one in the ‘recipes to try’ bookmark folder! Hope all the wedding prep is going well, I think it’s so wonderful you are doing it yourselves! In a way i’m looking forward to Christmas being over because I can start trying on Wedding dresses in January, and getting down the the important things like setting a date and trying to find a venue!
@missmascara1983 It really was. Now, just to round it off nicely I’m sipping hot chocotale in my jammies 🙂
@GretalRabbit You’re welcome, I’ve had it on all weekend! Much to the Mr’s disgust of course 😉
@Belle du Brighton It was incredibly tasty, I’ll def make it again. You’ll have so mcuh fun come January. Despite all the stress of wedding planning it’s really very exciting! Can’t wait to see your plans unfold.

Jamie’s 30 Minute Meals really is a gem of a cookbook isn’t it? There isn’t anything we’ve cooked from it yet that hasn’t been totally delicious. 4 weeks…eeee! PS, I have not one, but two christmas playlists – one for the Sinatra et al oldies, and one for the more modern cheese – there’s definitely more than enough to warrant a dedicated station. Mind you, I’d say that even if there were only 10 well known Christmas songs 😉
Sounds, as always, like a lovely weekend you’ve had. Especially liking the high food pic quota, because your foodie photos always make me think ‘oooh, that looks yum!’
But anyway, love the drinks flags! Am seriously going to get overexcited on your behalf at this rate….you’re turning me into the sort of person that gets giddy about weddings!
The drink flags look gorgeous!!!
As always, the descriptions of your meals make me crave some delicious homemade food! x
I’m going to call you Nigella from now on! Your food always sounds/look yummy!!
The flags are beautiful.. getting very excited about your wedding now!
In case I don’t “speak” to you before… Have a lovely Christmas with your beautiful family! 😀 xxxx
Loving the little flags. Also wondering if I can find a time machine, turn my clock back to about aged three and get you to adopt me, it always sounds like such fun in your house and meals to drool over. x
Those potatoes look ridiculously yummy!
