- Waking up alone. Mr. LA is away until Tuesday. I miss him.
- Cuddling a very snuffly Jesse.
- Dragging myself downstairs.
- Sipping tea on the sofa and watching ‘Charlotte’s Web’.
- Listening to Izzy wake up.
- Realising both children were completely full of cold.
- Panicking about Izzy’s asthma and making a mad dash to a local pharmacy to replenish her inhaler supply.
- Feeling relieved after we managed to avoid bumping into anyone I know. No makeup, unwashed hair and pjs on under my clothes. Classy.
- Making french toast for breakfast in an attempt to cheer everyone up.
- Spending the whole day indoors. Cabin fever doesn’t even cover it.
- Administering Calpol at regular intervals.
- Enjoying soup and onion bagels for lunch. I can highly recommend Waitrose creamy butternut squash and tarragon. Delicious.
- Daydreaming about Autumnal food. I bought a bunch of chard and as many English plums as I could carry this week. I love seasonal cooking.
- Making the children pop corn and mugs of hot chocolate.
- Building Jesse a den. Bunk beds lend themselves perfectly to this task.
- Hiding out in aforementioned den, reading story books, and pretending to listen out for monsters.
- Realising just how ill Izzy was when she turned down a plate of pesto pasta. It’s practically unheard of.
- Putting two very sleepy, and very snotty, children to bed.
- Relishing the first sip of wine.
- Watching old episodes of Sex and the City.
- Staying up too late reading Caitlin Moran’s ‘How To Be a Woman’.
- Feeling thankful when I awoke to find the children had slept through despite the coughing, wheezing and sneezing.
- Eating jam on toast and drinking tea.
- Loving thick tights and my purple cardigan.
- Putting a few waves in my hair.
- Craving fresh air.
- Baking a Victoria Sponge with Jesse.
- Letting the children lick the bowl.
- Sitting down for a modest lunch of beans on toast.
- Eating cake.
- Walking into town.
- Loving the crisp autumn air.
- Watching the children run around at the park.
- Catching up on all my Sunday evening chores.
- Preparing Sunday dinner. Veggie sausages, roast potatoes, a huge mountain of chard, and peas with lashings of onion gravy.
- Showering the children and coaxing them into clean pyjamas.
- Reading bedtime stories.
- Spending too much money on new clothes for Izzy. Damn you Mini Boden catalogue and your tempting ways.
- Trying to resist the lure of both leftover roast potatoes AND cake.
- Failing….

Haha! Well done, excellent speed reading! xxx
Gosh I don’t think there could be anything harder to resist than leftover roast potatoes AND cake. Yum! x
I love your photos, your blog post just summed up for me why I love Autumn season so much (apart from late summer colds and poorly children). My husband is away lots too so I sympathise with you. The french toast looks dreamy… x
Aww I feel for you! My husband goes out-of-town very often, it’s not easy to be alone, especially when the children are young! It seems as though baking can cure the loneliness, I do a lot of cupcakes 😉 Love your uplifting writing!
Thank you! I’m feeling much better now he’s home 🙂 xxx
I need that french toast followed by the cake please. Send by courier STAT!
Shall I come over and pick you up one day and bring you over for a nosey at our middle aged semi? xx
