…. recovering.
On sunday I was hit my a massive wave of exhaustion, probably related to seep deprivation and the dreaded anaemia again (and if there happen to be any vegetarians reading this who manage to maintain an iron rich diet successfully I’d love to know your secret!).
I could barely function for most of the day but as Mr. LA was ill in bed (24hr vomiting bug, not pretty) and my friend was visiting I had to muddle on as best I could. By the time evening arrived I just couldn’t keep it up and I ended up going to bed not long after the children. My poor guest who had traveled all the way from London to see us ended up watching DVDs and drinking wine by herself, I felt like such a terrible friend.
After a somewhat fitful night of sleep I woke up this morning feeling incredibly weak and light headed. I manged to be sociable and spend some time with my friend before she caught her train home but I spent the remainder of the day in bed.
The rest has done me good and I feel almost human again now. Thank goodness it’s only 5 more sleeps until we leave for Bali, can you tell how badly I need a holiday?
The rest of my weekend was mainly spent….
- Snuggling in bed with the children for a good hour before coming downstairs for breakfast. I’m dreading the time when my little ones suddenly become to grown-up to cuddle their mother.
- Loving my maxi dress. It never fails to draw the odd compliment and it just feels so summery and glamorous.
- Wondering why I never reach for MAC’s Pink Lemonade lipglass… it’s so pretty!
- Eating our delicious picnic on the green in front of the cathedral.
- Catching up with my best friend. She’s been through a lot in the last 6 months and not all of it was stuff she could talk about over the phone so we had some rather emotional conversations. A few tears were shed by both of us but it felt good to be there to support her now.
- Spritzing and sniffing the new Lush Perfume Tuca Tuca. It’s a really beautiful spicy floral. It’s got violet, vanilla and sandalwood and although I think it would be too heavy for everyday it seems perfect for long, hot summer nights.
- Taking the children to the park and playing in the sunshine.
- Loving the way Jesse giggles when he’s on the swing.
- Wandering home for cups of tea and even more catching up.
- Bathing the children and listening to my friend read bedtime stories and bond with her goddaughter.
- Opening the wine and munching on Doritos while we waited for MR. LA to get back from his video shoot on Dartmoor.
- Cooking and eating Spaghetti Alla Carbonara. Mmmmmm it was delicious (even if I did have to pick out all the pancetta!)
- Having a few too many helpings of morello cherry chocolate cake and hot chocolate sauce. It was soooo good though!

Oh, massive hugs, you poor thing, you sound exhausted, I can TOTALLY sympathise with how you feel, it’s just so physically and mentally draining when you feel like that isn’t it 🙁
I’m so glad you managed to enjoy your time with your friend though, and I’m sure she won’t have thought you were a terrible friend for having to go to bed honey.
Your weekends always sound so lovely, I can’t wait to have my little addition to share mine with 🙂
I had wondered where the normal Sunday night ‘loveaudrey’ blog fix was though, I sent you virtual hugs!
I didn’t know you were a veggie (or maybe I did?!), I was for about 6 years! I took iron supplements if I ever felt a bit ‘lacking’, although I never actually had anaemia properly.
Hope you’re back to your normal self and you’re all fighting fit in time for Bali, I’m so excited for you 🙂

@Laura I’m feeling a lot better now, although still not quite 100%.
I’m what most people would call a pretty rubbish vegetarian. I was a ‘proper’ veggie for about 11 years and only started eating meat when I was pregnant with Izzy (I craved rare steak, weird huh?). Since then I’ve been pretty much veggie but as I cook it for Mr.LA and the kids I do end up eating it occasinally. I derive no pleasure from it though, I can’t stand the stuff! I’m just too lazy to cook seperate meals all the time and Mr. LA is such a carnivore. I’m realy prone to amaemia though, I had it so bad when I was pregnant with Jesse. I think iron supplements might be the way to go.

I am a veggie…i don’t eat eggs either or much dairy. I eat a farly good diet and my little tricks for anemia (i’ve had it in the past) are a few squares of 85% dark choc everyday, lots of green veg (i always add peas or spinach into most of my meals…spag bol/pastas/fajitas etc) and fortified bread. Plus i take any iron and vit c supplement from Holland and Barratt for a week when my period is due. xx
Thank you LissyLou, some great advice, especially re. the timing of taking your iron. I’d never thought of that. I’ve never heard of fortified bread, which brand do you buy? I might need to go back to eating cereal as that is usually fortifed with iron.

I like burgen bread-the soya and linseed one. and i think most wholewheat breads have some iron in them. Try and have some vit c eg orange juice with iron rich foods to help absorb the iron xx
