- Taking a trip to A&E. We kicked off the school holidays with an early morning ambulance ride after Jesse developed breathing problems overnight. We were unsure about dialing 999 but as soon as the paramedics told us his oxygen level had dropped to 87% {when it should be over 95} we knew we had done the right thing. They hooked Jesse up to a nebulizer, dosed him up on oral steroids, x-rayed his chest, and kept him in all day for observation. We were finally sent home with inhalers and the usual ‘we really don’t like to diagnose asthma in under 5s {but that’s probably what it is}’ line. Either way, with two children on asthma meds, it would seem I’m just not very good at making babies that can breathe properly.
- Frantically packing for our week away at the in-laws.
- Somehow managing to squish my self in between the two children and their car seats in the back of my FIL’s teeny tiny sports car.
- Surviving the 4 hour drive to Derby.
- Settling in for a week of relaxation. Think endless cups of tea, far too much food, sleeping in, drinking lots of wine and being generally quite lazy. Bliss.
- Making the most of the beautiful autumn weather and taking a leisurely walk to Elvaston Castle.
- Climbing trees, chasing the children, and pretending that all the most derelict buildings and darkest caves were haunted by evil witches.
- Staying up late to watch movies. I finally got to see The King’s Speech and I loved it.
- Shopping in Nottingham. I could have spent a small fortune, but I was very restrained.
- Falling in love with Tom Ford’s Black Orchid perfume. One sniff in Space NK and I can’t get it out of my head. I need it in my life.
- Taking the children to a local play cafe. There was a soft play area and a ball pond and the opportunity to make lots of noise. Pure heaven for the littlies.
- Spending time with Mr. LA’s niece and nephews.
- Eating my own body weight in junk food. I really over indulged. We had Burger King three times and a Subway and more chocolate and crisps than you can imagine. Bleugh. Detoxing is now essential.
- Strolling around Derby’s Westfield shopping centre.
- Longing for more clothes for myself. Things were so rushed when we left Exeter I only ended up packing a couple of jumpers and my jeans!
- Wishing Mr. LA didn’t have to leave Derby unexpectedly due to work.
- Heading out for dinner with Mr. LA’s mother and sister. We sampled the wonder that is Derby’s Slice of India. It was incredible, I’ve never seen a buffet restaurant like it. I particularly enjoyed the authentic street food prepared by the chefs right in front of you. I ate so much I could hardly move.
- Transforming Izzy into a vampire for a Halloween party hosted by Mr. LA’s sister.
- Suspecting Jesse may be the cutest skeleton EVER.
- Drinking too much wine.
- Waking up with a bit of a hangover.
- Curing aforementioned hangover with an epic cooked breakfast.
- Making the long journey back to Exeter.
- Loving that feeling you get when you come home after a trip away.
- Hating the mountain of post-holiday washing.
- Enjoying one last indulgent meal. Pie, mash, veg, yorkshire puddings and lots and lots of gravy. Yum.
- Very much looking forward to sleeping in my own bed.

Apart from A&E (and the washing!) it sounds like a lovely week! I spent a couple of days in Derby in the summer, have you been up in the cable cars to the Heights of Abraham? that’s where my boy popped the question!
Hope that the little ones don’t suffer too much with the ‘it isn’t but it is asthma’
xx
Oh I’m glad I clicked the link to your blog, not thinking you’d have had time to upload anything yet. After your horrid start to the week you really deserved that super holiday and it sounds like loads of fun was had by all. x
Well, it certainly sounds like a well deserved holiday!
Now, I got so far down your recount of how you spent your week, nodding and making mental notes on how to comment appropriately, like the good commentator I am. But then I got to the part where you went shopping in my home town and lost all focus…..
But yeah, I do love my own fair city for its shopping purposes! And you’ve two very cute children, even more so in their costumes!
Poor Jesse, that doesn’t sound much fun for any of you. Love his skeleton costume though – he is just so darn cute (I love little boys with long hair)
x
I really hope the meds keep Jesse stable, I can’t even begin to imagine how frightening it must have been. You might not make babies that can breathe, but you make DAMN CUTE ones 🙂
Your week away sounds fantastic, and I adore the photos. As long as you don’t eat like that EVERY week I see no harm in the indulgences!
Welcome home, don’t go away again please, I missed you 😉 xxx
Don’t you just love that as mama’s we just keep on truckin’.? Sounds great minus a couple bumps in the weekend. Adorable witch you have there!
Awww, love! What a scare you had with Jesse, I really hope all is well. x
Your babies definitely make the cutest witch and skeleton and look to be having such a good time.
Just taken a look at the link for Elvaston Castle. I just love castles and stately homes, they seem to fit my over romanticised view on life, tee hee!
All in all it sounds like you’ve had a lovely family week! 😀 xx
Oh goodness, what a horrible experience with Jesse. I had something similar with my eldest one time, except it wasn’t asthma, it was a severe chest infection – I thought she was going to die cause she literally couldnt breathe. Its so scary isn’t it? I’m glad the rest of your week was good though – especially loving the childrens Halloween get up 🙂 x
