  • Creeping downstairs with Jesse as the sun came up.
  • Quietly sipping tea on the sofa.
  • Slowly making a start on the mammoth task of preparing the house for weekend guests.
  • Fixing breakfast for the children.
  • Mixing up the batter for a Chocolate Easter Cake. Bookmark the recipe for next year, it’s a good’un!
  • Hanging laundry out to dry, making up beds and overseeing the children as they tidied their rooms.
  • Jumping in the shower while the cakes cooled on the kitchen counter.
  • Pulling on a frock and doing my makeup. I’m completely in love with Clarins Extra-Comfort Foundation. I’ve been using a sample, but I plan to pick up a full size pot some time this week.
  • Making chocolate frosting and carefully icing the cake.
  • Letting the children steal a few Mini Eggs.
  • Grabbing a quick sandwich for lunch.
  • Greeting Mr L.A.’s family as they arrived.
  • Making tea and coffee.
  • Tucking into Italian Breakfast Banana Bread while we all caught up. I baked this on Good Friday and it’s even better a day or two later, especially smothered in Nutella!
  • Saying goodbye to my in-laws as they headed to a gig just outside Bristol.
  • Whiling away the afternoon, watching the kids play happily with Mr L.A.’s brother.
  • Making beans on toast for their tea.
  • Tucking the children in.
  • Retreating downstairs while their uncle read them a bedtime story.
  • Drinking red wine and devouring an Indian takeaway.
  • Settling down to watch What We Do in the Shadows, a mockumentary about a group of vampires living in Wellington, New Zealand. Very funny.
  • Jumping out of my seat in fright and inadvertently throwing an entire glass of red wine in my own face. Oh how my husband laughed!
  • Throwing my wet clothes in the washing machine.
  • Finishing up the movie and collapsing into bed.
  • Waking up as Jesse clambered in beside us.
  • Wishing each other a happy Easter.
  • Making a huge batch of waffles for breakfast.
  • Slipping a shoulder of pork into the oven to cook slowly for our Sunday dinner.
  • Filling the dining table with spring blooms and chocolate eggs.
  • Soaking up the sunshine as it poured in through the French windows.
  • Eating too much.
  • Hurriedly getting dressed and heading out to enjoy the beautiful warm weather.
  • Walking to Troopers Hill.
  • Traipsing through the woods.
  • Admiring the blossom on the trees.
  • Ambling home to crack on with the cooking.
  • Making Southern-Style Slaw to serve with our pulled pork.
  • Stealthily laying out clues for the children’s Easter egg hunt.
  • Following them round as they filled their basket with sweets and treats.
  • Serving up our huge feast.
  • Feeling full.
  • Watching Frozen.
  • Snoozing on the sofa.
  • Deciding I’m really not cut out for middle-of-the-day drinking.
  • Making toast for the children before bundling them off to bed.
  • Pulling on my PJs.
  • Snacking on crisps and drinking red wine while we debated which film we should watch.
  • Finally settling on Kidnapping Mr. Heineken. I enjoyed it, but opinion was divided among the rest of the group.
  • Saying goodnight to the others and quickly drifting off to sleep.
  • Enduring an early start to the day as we packed and prepared the children for a week away with their grandparents.
  • Waving everyone off at the door.
  • Pausing to take in how peaceful the house is with Isabel and Jesse running riot.
  • Working hard.
  • Looking wistfully at the sunshine outside my window.
  • Wondering how we’ll spend our first child-free evening in forever.
