Oh what a lovely pair…. of shoes!

Shall we talk about breasts ladies?

Boobs, bristols, tits, bosoms, bazookas, hooters… the list goes on! But whatever we call them, we’ve all got them. Admittedly, they come in a variety of shapes and sizes (for reference I’m a recovering milk-induced 30FF currently sporting a more modest 30D pair), but I’m sure that having them look and feel their best is a priority for all of us.

Let me begin by pointing out that I’m writing this from the perspective of someone who has breastfed two babies. My daughter got bored of my milk at around 10months but my son is currently still a fully fledged boob man. However, that is not to say that this post is only relevant to those of us who have endured cracked nipples, sodden breast pads or the ritual humiliation known as a nursing bra.

(Nor do I wish to give the impression that I’m a breastfeeding Nazi who frowns upon anyone that bottle feeds. I am decidedly non-judgmental about the way people do things with their own children. As long as a parent isn’t being obviously neglectful then let them get on with it I say. The world would be a boring place if we all raised our children the same way. My idea of ‘natural’ parenting focuses on following your instincts, doing what feel right for you at any given time.

With this in mind, I have to admit that I count breastfeeding as one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. It is TOUGH and I shed many, many tears during the first 4 weeks of my daughter’s life because of it. Anyone who tells you different has either forgotten or they were just extremely lucky. Nursing is a skill that both you and your baby has to master. Your ability to acquire this skill can be influenced by a number of factors; the kind of birth you have, your own post-natal condition and recovery, your baby’s health, the sort of home environment you’ll be bringing your baby home to etc. The point is, I really wanted to do it, it was important to me (if you want to know why read this). That’s why I sought out all the advice and support I could in order to do so. Aside from the usual midwives and health visitors, the NCT (National Childbirth Trust) was an invaluable source of information. Talking to people that had breastfed their own children (particularly my own mum, and my Aunt who breast fed TWINS!) was also a great help.)

I digress….

Whether you breast feed or not, pregnancy can reek havoc on your boobs. They will increase (and then eventually decrease) in size no matter what. Weight loss or gain, hormonal fluctuations and an ill fitting bra can also impact upon the breasts of those without children. Let’s face it, simply getting older is going to have an effect. They aint gonna stay perky forever, put it that way!

So what kind of state are my boobs in right now? Well, after I stopped BF Izzy they reverted back to an acceptable size and I certainly wasn’t bothered by their tone or firmness. My biggest problem since having Jesse is that I have lost a lot of weight… too much in my opinion. I think this is the main reason why, 2nd time round, my boobs haven’t fared quite so well. They definitely feel less firm and dare I say, saggy (although Mr. LA dismisses these comments as ridiculous… but he would, wouldn’t he?). The skin on my bust (or decolletage) also looks quite dull, probably because it’s been stretched (and repeatedly scratched and tugged by tiny baby fingers). Ultimately, my boobs need all the help they can get.
That’s where Lush’s new breast cream ‘Lovely Jubblies’ comes in.

Lush say they’ve ‘developed a cream to keep your bits firm and supple. This blend of cold-pressed, organic oils can keep your knockers and decolletage in top nick. The tightening action of meadowsweet and the fragrant, floral boo-kay of orange blossom and rose will give you the loveliest jubblies in town. Cushdy!’

I’ve already stated that I’m completely smitten with the scent of this product. It has the most beautiful, sophisticated floral perfume that really lingers on the skin without being overpowering. The combination of orange-blossom, rose jasmine and ylang ylang transports me to Thailand and reminds me of fragrant evening walks along the beach. I love the fact that throughout the course of the day I occasionally get a delicate whiff of the scent on myself. It also makes my bra smell lovely!!

It’s not the scent alone that has impressed me. The cream itself is light and melts into the skin beautifully (upward motions girls, upward motions!) A little goes a really long way, which makes the £14.95/100g price tag easier to swallow. It is deeply, deeply softening and has restored some of that long lost glow to my decolletage area. The ingredients list is impressive, all cold pressed organic oils, floral infusions and essential oils. The evening primrose oil is particularly interesting as it’s known for it’s cell regenerating properties. My jubblies could definitely do with a bit of extra collagen! It’s the Meadowsweet infusion and Tiger Lily that are famed for their firming effect on the skin.

So does it firm, I hear you cry?

Well yes… and no.

This cream isn’t going to suddenly hoist breasts, that are currently sitting comfortably around one’s midriff, up to just below the jawline. It’s not a boob job in a pot. But my boobs do feel firmer in a non-chemically induced kind of way. Lovely Jubblies doesn’t instantly tauten the skin and tingle it’s way to firmness in the way that a less natural cream might, but I think that even after only a couple of weeks of applying this once a day the condition and texture of my skin has improved so much that my brain has been tricked into thinking that my boobs are firmer. It’s boosted my confidence, if not my actual bust.

I am so impressed with the effects of this product that I’ll happily continue using it and I would certainly repurchase. I truly adore the scent so even if you’re sceptical about it’s toning and firming properties I urge you to pop into your nearest Lush and apply a little cream to the back of your hand. Leave the heavily perfumed store and go about your day. Later, once in the real world, pause and deeply inhale the perfume. It’s lovely jubblies.
