The blogosphere has been abuzz with talk of these magical smoothies recently. Lily Loves Lola swears by them and Lollipop loves them too.

I adore smoothies, I really do. When they’re done right it feels like you’re drinking up a big glass of creamy goodness. They give me that smug glow I really crave from food. There’s nothing like knowing you’re putting something good and nourishing in your body, something that’s really going to do you good.

So it was only a matter of time before I chucked a handful of spinach into my blender in place of my usual berries and oats combo.

Well, wow is all I can say! This glass of green sludge is, quite simply, amazing. I’m totally hooked. Don’t be put off by the swamp-like green glow emanating from the glass, it tastes like a pimped up banana smoothie.

I easily polished off almost a pint while I tapped away at my keyboard yesterday morning and I have to say that the increased energy these beauties promise was definitely forthcoming. No mid-afternoon slump for me, I was like an essay-writing-duracell-bunny, I just kept going and going.

I followed Joy’s recipe here (AMAZING baking blog, go read) which includes pear and kale too. Angela from Oh She Glows deserves credit for the original Green Monster recipe and she has a whole other blog dedicated to yummy-sounding variations. I’m planning on picking up some flax from my local health food shop this weekend. Flax is high in Omega 3 and 6 and I’m always looking for ways to increase my intake of these as they’re supposed to improve concentration, among other things. Sipping a Green Monster with an extra kick of this would be perfect.

Have you tried a Green Monster yet? Go on… they’re yummy!
