I tend to feel that each new season brings with it a new fashion mission.
In autumn I begin hunting for dreamy knitwear (you know, *ahem* affordable cashmere) and tops and tees for layering that fit perfectly and won’t loose their shape after one wash.
In winter I want that perfect pair of boots. Comfy but chic. Practical but elegant. Buttery soft leather and just the right heel height.
In summer we must all endure the ritual humiliation that is shopping for swimwear and flirt, yet again, with the notion that we might find a maxi dress we look good in.
For me, spring means scouring the high street for the perfect jacket. Every Brit girl knows that one cannot even contemplate facing the ‘warmer’ months in the UK without a decent cover-up because, lets face it, it aint usually that warm. Even if the sun does make an appearance you need something to hold over your head as you make a dash for the bus stop through one of those torrential downpours that seem to plague our little island during the summer.
Every year I embark on this endless search, thinking I might find this allusive jacket that fits me so well and can be flung over any outfit. It will be a classic shape and style, made from good quality fabric and it will go with everything. It can be both smart and casual and it will always be elegant. Oh, and it won’t cost too much either because usually, by the time spring comes around again, I’ll have decided there has to be something better out there.
This year I’m contemplating a couple of styles. I’m very tempted to pick up a little fitted denim number. I love the contrast of denim with a posh frock and I like the idea of dressing it up with pretty brooches and maybe the odd scarf. The only issue with this option is that I wear jeans ALOT and I refuse to do the double denim look. Hands up if you remember B*Witched?

Or perhaps I should go for a classic trench. Definitely smart and it could also tick the elegant box me thinks.
I like these beauties from Warehouse, especially the cute cropped version. Channelling a little bit of Audrey can only be a good thing, no?

I’d welcome your thoughts and I’d love to know what you’ll be searching for this spring too!

my dear – I think you need both a trench AND a denim jacket! I have a demin jacket I love, but which I wish was a shade or two darker..perhaps that’s a purchase for this spring!
Oooh I think you need the trench!
I love a denim jacket and i too love adding brooches to them … i got a great one from French connection about 10 years ago (which i now class as vintage lol) but Primark believe it or not do great ones!!
Trenches i love too – got a nice one from zara and im sure they had some really lovely lightweight ones in when i was last in – not too expensive im sure too x
@Ondine Yes I think you’re probably right! My poor bank acount!
@Sophie They’re very lovely aren’t they!
@Saskia Will have to have a hunt in Primark. I don’t venture in there too often. I have seen some nice jackets in Zara, I just need to find the time to actually try one on!
