{Getting Cosy ~ The who, what, where, why and how of autumn/winter in the Love Audrey household. What we love to cook, eat, wear and do in the colder months, with just a hint of Christmas magic.}

Exeter looked beautiful this past weekend. There were clear blue skies and the air was crisp, cold and refreshing. When the sun began to set the Christmas lights that were only recently hoisted above the shop fronts of local businesses began to glow, thousands of fairy lights flickering to life, and it took all of my will power to resist the urge to gorge myself on mince pies and mulled wine.

I love this time of year, I really do. But there is a downside to the drop in temperature. Just as those blustery, cold winds begin to blow, and I’m overcome with an uncontrollable urge to crank the central heating up to full blast, my skin promptly decides to have a little freak out. And not in a chic way either. Nope, sadly, it tends to have a kind of a dry, inflamed, sore, spotty thing going on.

This is exactly how my face was feeling at the beginning of November when I wandered into my local House of Fraser and ambled up to the Origins counter. After my recent experiences with their Night-A-Mins Cream, and daily use of their VitaZing SPF15 Energy Boosting Moisturiser throughout the warmer months, I’ve come to expect great things from their skincare range.

After staring vacantly at the vast array of products on offer for a few minutes, I found myself drawn to the Dr Weil range. I’ve had positive results from products in this line before {I’m no stranger to the face serum, do have a read of my original review here} so I had an inkling it was just what my suddenly sensitive, severely dehydrated skin was crying out for.

My instincts were right, and after using a sample of the face cream for a couple of days I headed straight back to the store to pick up a full size pot. The Dr Weil for Origins Skincare Collection offered fantastic value and allowed me to stock up on my favourite face mask too. Bonus!

The cream seems quite rich in the pot. In fact, I was a little concerned it would be too heavy for my spot-prone {but-not-actually-as-oily-as-I-think-it-is} skin. However, upon application, it melts into my face perfectly without a hint of grease or stickiness {but Origins do also offer a lotion as a part of the range, which might be better suited to those with genuinely oily skin}.

Afterwards, my skin feels soft and smooth to the touch and my makeup applies wonderfully. As with all of the products I’ve tried in this range, it has one hell of a funky smell. It’s kind of herbal and mushroomy, and I can’t say I love it, but I’m able to get past it because the benefits to my skin are obvious.

Indeed, the difference these products have made is pretty phenomenal. Although, I haven’t banished those pesky spots completely, my skin is noticeably calmer. The redness and soreness that was plaguing me has disappeared and my skin feels generally more comfortable and better hydrated. In short, together, these two products have been just what my winter skincare routine needed.
