I fed my stationery addiction this week. I purchased a new diary.
I fully embraced the desire for newness that September brings {a throwback to school days and the customary addition of a shiny new pencil case, lunchbox and book bag}, indulging in a small, soft backed, 18 month Moleskin. It’s a beauty. Behold…
Did I mention we booked our honeymoon? Two weeks in Koh Samui, Thailand. WITHOUT CHILDREN.
Uh huh, that’s right, sans enfant.
Believe it or not, it will be our first holiday together, on our own, EVER.
Unless you count that weekend of camping in north Devon the first May bank holiday we were together. Technically, I was already pregnant with Izzy so we weren’t really alone, in the true sense of the word. Besides, we were in a tent. And we only had one sleeping bag {although Mr. LA didn’t seem to mind too much *wink*} and we weren’t even calling each other girlfriend and boyfriend at the time. At least not out loud. My, how things have changed, hey?
Anyway, we’re booked into the Sala Samui and we’ll be jetting off a few months after the wedding. I’ve never fancied honeymooning immediately after the big day, for reasons I can’t entirely fathom, but when I realised my graduation ceremony would be the weekend following the wedding, I knew I simply couldn’t miss it. Currently toying with the idea of giving my wedding dress a second airing under my robes. My Jimmy Choos will compliment the mortar board perfectly, no?
The pages of my beloved Moleskin will be perfect for honeymoon packing lists. Exactly how many bikinis does one require for a two week stay in the sun?
Where did/will you go on your honeymoon? Are you a fan of Moleskin notebooks? They make me go a little weak at the knees, truth be told. Please excuse me while I stroke its pristine pages…

I still have my lovely vinyl covered Filofax I got for Christmas just before my 17th birthday. Every year I buy a new diary insert for it, and replenish the pages (multicoloured ones of course) for my notes section. I absolutely love it, it goes all sorts of places with me, and I’ve started my own version of the Moleskine travel books in it 🙂
I love diaries/agendas, but never had a Moleskine! It’s such a classic though, I know I’ll get it at some point. I love your handwriting! x
I don’t have a particular longing for Moleskine…but oh I do love stationery. I get such huge satisfaction from writing with a new pen on a new page in a new book of some description…obviously some stationery is greater than others, I do love my purple leather filofax I use for work though and although it’s not half so posh I share your joy.
And a holiday without the kids? I can’t imagine such a thing. Our honeymoon was pre-kids but were we to marry now I’m sure our honeymoon would have to include the kids, there’d be no choice, no one would have them for that long! I don’t think I’d like that long away from them to be honest, but along weekend would be pure bliss. Lucky you!
@m4dswine I tried to love my pink filofax but I find it a tad too bulky. Shame, my Dad had a lovely battered leather one and I always liked the idea of emulating his diary style!
@Rocaille Oh you must! They’re so classic and chic, kind of the Chanel of the diary world if you will!

We went to the Maldives on our honeymoon and like you, we didn’t go straight after the wedding. The 7 month wait was so worth it, it was a magical place and every photo taken makes me look like a pro photographer the scenary was so beautiful. Enjoy your honeymoon!
@Charlie I think a filofax is posh! As I mentioned above, I think they’re wonderful, I just find them a bit bulky. The Moleskin is so slim and light.
I was in 2 minds about being away from the children for that long too {not Mr. LA, he was all ‘lets go for 3 weeks!} but they’ll be at home with my Mum first and then the in-laws the second. They’re coming to stay here so Izzy can still go to school etc. I think they’ll enjoy it really, you know how Grandparents like to spoil them! And with mobiles and internet we’ll be able to stay in touch easily.
I hope you get a weekend away soonish, it’s so nice to take some time for yourself as a couple.

@frostsweet Oh the Maldives sound wonderful! I think it’s nice to have something else to look forward to after the actual wedding, otherwise the come down might be a little too much!

I agree, time as a couple is important! One day I hope! We don’t have family close and they either have commitments or are not keen about lots of things so we don’t ask them for much. My parents are coming down to look after the kids so we can go to my husband’s Christmas party and even that’s a chore for them. Wonderful! xx
Yes! That’s definitely a beauty 🙂 I love Moleskine notebooks. I love that famous artists would carry them around to sketch things, ah, the romance of it all! Can I stroke it, please! 🙂 tee hee. x
I am a complete stationary whore, always have been. My husband is also which means that he never gets TOO upset when he catches sight of my Paperchase receipts…
I too want to stroke your diary….I’ve such a stationary obsession its untrue….I swear I spend far, far too long in Paperchase, although my first love when it comes to stationary is John Lewis or Jessops as my local branch was known back in the day….its where all the expensive stationary used to be sold at, and I’ve got classy taste!
I also love the fact famous people have used them in the past, it makes me feel arty! I dont have a mid-year or any year diary, I might have to jump on your bandwagon, although I dream fondly of owning a Smythson diary one day….a girl can hope!!
I’ve been loyal to Moleskine for the last four years or so and each one is a battered little testament to my life at that particular point. I swapped to a red cover last year but can’t wait to get back to black for 2012. Much classier! I get a particular pleasure from going through the new diary, usually in the Christmas holidays, and filling in birthdays, upcoming dates etc. Since 2012 is in line to be the MOST exciting year, I’ll be looking forward to this ritual even more than usual! x
p.s. a new pen is almost always necessary too 🙂
Urgh…I just wrote a long comment and it lost it 🙁 *sigh*
I keep meaning to ask if you were honeymooning with or without the children, and now I know, how very exciting 🙂 It sounds perfect too, I am so excited for you! Colin and I have never been abroad alone, well, a long weekend in Italy but for some reason I don’t count that?! You’ve certainly got a busy start to 2012, the most perfect start, I’m so thrilled and excited with the anticipation of it all for you 🙂
I’m also LOVING the Moleskin! I’ve lost touch with writing in a physical diary of late, I’ve a big family wall planner calendar, and use the diary on my phone, but I miss the feeling of getting new stationary and filling it up!
Much love xxx
Moleskine diaries are great – I need to get a diary too. You must be getting excited about the wedding and honeymoon – the resort looks gorgeous.
I love Moleskine too & you may have just convinced me to get the diary for next year!
How lovely to have a 2wk honeymoon alone! We had 4 days sans bambino (who was 6mths old at the time) & went to Paris for a night then got the train to Cannes for a few days.
Nic x
Oh stationery I adore you. I love my filofax but he is just too huge to lug around everyday.
Writing in my wedding day did make me feel all happy!
I do hope one day I can write honeymoon into it too!
I have the music journal Moleskine – BIG LOVE! I would like their diary too, might just treat myself next pay day!
When we have our honeymoon we want to go to West Wales (it’s our “special” place) not exotic but a place that really means something to us. We would get a cottage with a lovely view (as opposed to the usual tent in a field affair!)
You will have such a blissful two weeks!
xx
Aww your wedding day and honeymoon all penciled in.What a pretty place to honeymoon as well.xx
