I love red lipstick. You know I do. There are weeks when I wear little else to be honest. I mean, all lipstick lifts me, but there’s nothing quite like the perfect red lip to make me feel like I can take on the world.
I am 99.999999% certain that I’ll be rocking red lipstick on our wedding day. I think Mr. LA would be pretty shocked if I didn’t. So, although I already have a fairly ample collection of scarlet-hued lip products, the search for the perfect bridal shade has begun.
With this in mind, I put out a plea on twitter recently asking everyone what blusher they favoured when wearing a red lip. It’s the one part of my signature look that’s been bugging me. As much as I love NARS Deep Throat {my most worn blusher by far} I wanted something a little more neutral that would impart the perfect glow without clashing with my lips.
Grace London came to my rescue {I knew she would, guru of red lipstick that she is} and recommended Sue Devitt Silky Blush in the shade Koh Samui. She was even kind enough to mail me a spare PR sample she had lying around.
Ahhh… it was love at first swatch. This blusher is beautiful!
The colour is beige with very subtle pink undertones and just a smidgen of shimmer. The texture is silky, blending better than anything else I own. It imparts a subtle sheen without making my skin look greasy or emphasising my {rather large} pores. It’s perfect on my pale skin and, most importantly, it looks beautiful with red lippy. Of course, it looks beautiful with lots of other things too, but when worn with red lippy it pleases me immensely.
The light was failing as I tried to pap these pictures so it proved impossible to capture a decent swatch but here it is in context with Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in No. 9 Lover. Do have a peek at posts on London MakeUp Girl here and here for a better look. You can just about see one of my other current obsessions in this picture. I nabbed the chunky turquoise necklace for a fiver in the Oasis sale. I have an identical one in coral that I wear to death so I just had to have this one too. I’ve been wearing it constantly with a simple Breton top and red lipstick a la Product Pixie. A genius colour combination that instantly makes red lipstick summer appropriate.
What’s your current blush love ladies? Any Sue Devitt fans out there? I’m keen to try more from the line but it’s not readily available near me and I struggled to find an online retailer.
More importantly, which red would you select for me to wear on my wedding day?
