What would you do if the man in your life was, at times, defiant and agressive?
If he was capable of screaming and shouting at you, sometimes even slapping and kicking?
What would you do if he pulled your hair and screamed ‘NO’ every time you asked him politely to do something?
How would you cope if he had violent mood swings? If he was all smiles and laughter and affection one moment, but tears and sullen looks the next?
What if he insisted on running away from you in public? Or, at times, behaved in such a way so as to embarrass you profusely in front of both friends and strangers alike?
What if he refused every meal you lovingly prepared for him, throwing cutlery and plates on the floor in the process?
And how would you cope if his personal hygiene, his toilet habits, left much to be desired? If the only way he’d ‘go’ was with you, seated on the floor next to him, reading or singing while he tried to pee?
What if your relationship with this man was so exhausting, so draining, that you lacked the energy for anything else?
And what if you loved this man completely and unconditionally?
Terrible 2s. It’s no walk in the park.

Hello! I found that the more my stepson mastered his language skills the more he calmed down. I think a lot of his trouble was that he couldn’t communicate what he wanted or how he felt very well. It is very tough though I agree. We had most of the problems you described and now he is a polite considerate gorgeous little five year old! Keep your chin up! BTW. I really enjoy your blog, it has really inspired me through some tough times!
i love this! so very true for any 2 yr old!! he is absolutely adorable, by the way!!
The terrible 2’s seems to be lasting through 3 yrs, 4yrs for my boy!! and even right up to the age of 9 sometimes for the eldest!!! Kids!!

I dread the arrival of the terrible 2’s, which are, thankfully, still a fair way away for me! You handle it well, at least, you appear to…I suppose we can’t see you standing there tearing your hair out in frustration!
Kids aye, who’d have ’em?! xxx
