A Love Audrey Christmas from loveaudrey on Vimeo.

I left present buying to the last minute. Corners of our home remained unfinished. We stashed unopened packing boxes in the garage and hid chaos beneath blankets in the attic. Jesse was initially unimpressed by his new balance bike. At one point I missed my Dad so much it was hard to breathe.

I parboiled the potatoes for 30 minutes instead of 4 and did my best not to weep over ruined roasties as I hid in the utility room. My father-in-law drove my husband to a nearby shop, inexplicably open on Christmas Day and well stocked with spuds. I swore at the unfamiliar oven in my swanky new kitchen as smoke poured from its open door.

Dinner was served an hour and a half later than planned. The Gingerbread Stuffing was a culinary masterpiece, but my Prodigious Pavlova looked like road kill. I was filled with guilt as I inwardly longed for the children’s bedtime. We drank too much, ate more than we should and stayed up far too late.

We made some perfectly imperfect memories in our new home and I went to bed happy and content.

Merry Christmas!
