I made a bold attempt to ditch my winter coat at the beginning of this week. It felt liberating, if a little chilly, swanning around between seminars (yes, I swan, don’t you?) in my trusty denim jacket from Zara, an excellent purchase made towards the end of last summer.
However, common sense prevails (for once). It’s simply isn’t warm enough to completely forgo a ‘proper’ coat yet, but I’m not prepared to wear my cumbersome winter one either. This fact, and my well documented weakness for coats generally, has led to some serious jacket-lust on my part.
Ladies, I’m torn. These 3 coats from Warehouse are calling to me and I simply cannot decide…
Exhibit A
A classic trench coat. I lived in the cropped version I bought from Warehouse at the beginning of last summer (they’re stocking exactly the same jacket this year, and a navy version too) and this would definitely be a good investment for my wardrobe as it’s something that’s eternally stylish.
If I make my decision based on one simple question, ‘what would Audrey do?’, I will almost certainly end up with this one…
Exhibit B
This slightly more casual number would look fabulous with jeans and ballet pumps or converse (which is about as close to trainers as I get).
It’s a little reminiscent of the coat Audrey wears while sightseeing around Paris in Funny Face, which I LOVE.
But, I’m not sure it would work with dresses and skirts, items which represent a large proportion of my wardrobe.
Exhibit C
And finally, this smart scalloped edge coat. I love the shape and the belt detail on this one. Perhaps a little smart for day to day but it is very pretty.
Which one would you choose? Have you invested in a jacket for Spring yet? Is there anything else I should check out before I take the plunge?

I love the first one, I love the classic trench coat look. I think it’ll suit you the best too, although I do really like the second one too! xxx
I’d go for the first one as well! x
Oooh it’s a toughie but I’d say the trench coat – I wore my beige trench for the firs time this week and it felt so nice to be back in it. Although I do always think I look like a spy when I wear it with a hat… a chic one though I like to think 😉
The great thing about the trench is that it’ll take you from day to night and through spring to autumn. Tres versatile.

Awww man…I really want a trench coat. They always look so classical and chic! Ok, that must be my mission now! Love that last coat too!
I love the third one as it’s a good compromise between the utility of the trenchcoat and something more feminine. It’s something a lot of people won’t have. Although, there’s something to be said about a trenchcoat – I have a navy blue polka dot one from Paul Smith and even that (which isn’t a muted, soft seasonably ‘bland’ colour) takes me from spring to summer and into autumn year-round as it’s seasonless and a complete staple.
I’ll be wearing last year’s spring coat, which I love (periwinkle blue and white polka dot wool coat from White Stuff – not vintage, but so much fun).
Although I love the scalloped front coat, the classic trench is certainly more Audrey. For me, more tailored is usually more flattering though. I guess it depends on the look you decide you want! Or just buy two… 🙂

Oh dear. I’m going to have to buy them all aren’t I!
I think it’s between the tench and the 3rd one. I do love the casual one but I think the cropped trench I bought last year works well with jeans etc so I don’t REALLY need it. Hmmmm… decisions, decisions!
Thanks for your input ladies, very helpful!

@Charlotte Your coat sounds beautiful, I adore polka dots! I def think I’m leaning towards the trench at the moment, but the thought of buying two is also very appealing!

i really love them all. I have one like A from Zara – about £45. I love warehouse coats but i don’t think i could justify the prices. The second one is great for day – if it was about £40 i’d get it. And the the lsat coat is beautifull – that actually looks much pricier – i’d consider that one 😉
Trench trench trench! I want one so much, they are so timeless!! I try to avoid ‘trends’ so much because I can’t afford to buy something, just for it to go out of ‘fashion’ in a months time, so I always opt for timeless pieces.
Although I wish you hadn’t shown me that scalloped edged beauty, I agree it’s very smart, but very beautiful!
I should admit I’m still wearing a 5 year old dogtooth cape number, that I have worn every winter since I bought it!

Number 3. It is different yet still classic.
I haven’t invested in a new jacket because having bought my gorgeous leather jacket last year I have discovered that it is all I need in a coat/jacket. A hoody slung underneath it makes it warm enough even for -5 and it is thin enough for spring.
Wow, Number 3 is stunning! So beautiful and would last a lot longer than just this spring. But I appreciate the not really everyday practical issue. Get them ALL!
