… ya know, aside from all the, er, English

1. When I decide I’m going to do something, I bloody well do it.

2. Postgraduate study is intense and unrelenting. If it doesn’t hurt, you’re probably not doing it right.

3. Despite all the hard work, student life is pretty fabulous. A few seminars a week, nice comfy sofas to snooze study on in the library and a Starbucks on campus. They even give you money off in Topshop.

4. I am totally incapable of dressing like a student. I cannot bring myself to wear my pjs to lectures, I don’t own a hoody and I’m allergic to Uggs. I much prefer gliding around the library in a nice frock, heels and red lippy. Overdressed, moi?

5. I’m going to have to find a new way to indulge my stationery fetish now that I no longer require an endless supply of pretty notebooks and folders.

6. Stress wreaks havoc on my immune system. I have never been as ill as I have over the last year. Flu, chest infections, general exhaustion … you name, it I’ve had it. Bleugh.

7. I’m rubbish at looking after myself when I’m under pressure.

8. Mr. LA is fabulous at looking after me when I’m under pressure.

9. Maintaining a good relationship with your fiance while you’re studying/working part time/raising two children is incredibly hard.

10. But it’s worth it.

11. I am my harshest critic.

12. This is both a blessing and a curse. I may berate myself for perceived failures, but its the same mindset that drives me to work incredibly hard.

13. I’m useless at returning things to the library on time.

14. Having a cute little boy in a buggy with you when you go to pay your library fines usually results in them being revoked. This is one of the few perks of being a student parent.

15. Writing a 20,000 word dissertation is really, really hard.

16. I can write a 20,000 word dissertation.

17. There is no such thing as too much tea or chocolate when you’re writing a 20,000 word dissertation.

18. When people tell me I’m a super woman it makes me cringe a little.

{19. But secretly, I know they’re right.}

20. Achieving something people assumed you never would may be the greatest feeling in the world.
