• 6.00am

It’s the first Monday of February. It’s cold, dark and wet outside, and I’m feeling pretty tired having spent the weekend celebrating Izzy’s 21st birthday. I wake with my alarm and slowly drag myself downstairs for a cup of tea. Carl isn’t far behind me, and he puts the bins out while I boil the kettle.

  • 6.20am

Having skipped my usual Sunday reset routine, I have a long list of chores to get through this morning. I put a load of laundry on to wash while I plan our meals for the week ahead and order groceries online.

  • 7.00am

We’re halfway through having some building work done on the house and I’m eager to be washed and dressed before the workmen arrive. I jump in the shower, apply my skincare, and pull on some comfy clothes. The children are still asleep, so Carl and I try not to wake them, creeping around upstairs while we get dressed.

  • 7.40am

The builder arrives just as I’m making breakfast, so I pause to brew him a cup of coffee. After eating, I hang up the wet washing, load the dishwasher, and give the kitchen a quick tidy. I also check my banking app to see if any of my retainer clients have paid their invoices yet. They have, so I move money between bank accounts and pay my share of the household bills.

  • 9.00am

As I do every Monday, I upload a photo of my breakfast to Instagram Stories and type out my intentions for the week ahead. Given how tired I am, I’m grateful I have this rhythm and post format to rely on.

  • 9.30am

I head upstairs with another cup of tea and spend a good chunk of time at my desk clearing my inbox, planning my workload, and writing to-do lists.

  • 10.10am

I move downstairs to my bedroom to edit a reel for Instagram. Once that’s done, I write and record the voiceover. This year, I’m continuing with my creative play series sharing everything I make each month, but I’m trying to incorporate more storytelling. Instead of listing projects and activities I’ve completed, I talk about lacking motivation and feeling uninspired in January.

  • 10.50am

I hit publish, scroll for a while, and respond to a couple of comments before heading back upstairs to finalise my long-form content plan for February. I create two drafts, add the titles, and start roughing out a structure. I’m writing one piece for my blog and another for my Substack publication, Larking About.

  • 12.15pm

The builder finishes for the day, and I stop work to make lunch. Jesse fries himself an egg while I prepare braised beans and greens for the rest of us. Once I’ve finished eating, I park myself on the sofa for a while. I could use a nap, but I eventually force myself back upstairs to work.

  • 1.20pm

I add a little more detail to my Substack piece, but the words aren’t flowing. I decide to look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow. I make some notes for the blog post I plan to write.

  • 2.15pm

I pull out my planner again and write out my goals for February. One of them is to prioritise my own content, so I feel I’ve already made good progress. I remember I need to block out half term, so I double check the dates online. I also send Charlie a quick WhatsApp message to arrange this month’s co-mentoring session and book in the next podcast recording.

  • 3.00pm

It’s time for Izzy to head back to London so I say goodbye at the door. Carl drives her to the coach station, and we exchange WhatsApp messages while she waits for her coach to depart.

  • 3.40pm

I write tomorrow’s to-do list and tidy my desk. Jesse’s friend arrives to watch a movie, so I hideout in my bedroom and edit photos for an Instagram post.

  • 5.15pm

We invite Jesse’s friend to stay for dinner, but she has other plans. I make spaghetti bolognese and the three of us eat together at the dining table. After dinner, I wash my face, pull on my PJs, and spend some time scrapbooking. Carl and Jesse tidy the kitchen and watch YouTube together.

  • 7.50pm

I rejoin the others downstairs. After making myself a cup of tea {a new favourite from Bird & Blend}, I plant myself on the sofa and we all watch the second episode of The Penguin. I think the boys are enjoying it more than I am, but I’m happy to stick with it for now.

  • 9.20pm

Carl puts The Office on, but I’m ready for bed. I grab my current book, The Glassmaker by Tracy Chevalier, and disappear upstairs. I read for a while before turning out the light.
