I probably don’t need to tell you what winter does to my skin. Basically, the minute we flick the switch on the central heating, I feel like my face could fall off at any moment. It becomes dry, dull and flaky, which is never a good look.

My skin needs extra attention and lots of TLC during a cold snap, so I like to add a few seasonal favourites to my routine. I’ve been using some of these products for years, so I know I can rely on them to keep my face feeling soft, smooth and flake-free.

  • Dr Andrew Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Advanced Face Serum

The Mega-Mushroom range by Origins is the first thing I reach for whenever my skin starts to feel parched. I could rave about everything from the treatment lotion to the face mask, but it’s the serum that truly has my heart.

Formulated with sensitive skin in mind, it instantly calms, reduces redness and prevents my face from feeling sore and uncomfortable.

  • Dr Andrew Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Smoothing Face Cream

I probably wouldn’t make it through winter without a pot of my favourite moisturiser. It’s rich, but never greasy and I love the way my skin feels after application. It provides a great base for makeup too.

All the products in this range have a distinct ‘herbal’ smell that might not be to everyone’s taste. They’re also pretty pricey, so my top tip is to take advantage of the Christmas gift sets that are currently available. I purchased the Origins Mega Relief Set from Boots for £64. The serum alone is worth £50, so it’s a great deal.

  • Clarins Booster Repair

A recent innovation from Clarins, I love the concept behind these dinky skin care boosters. Simply add a couple of drops to your favourite face cream, mask or foundation whenever you feel your skin needs a little something extra. With ‘Energy’ and ‘Detox’ also available, Repair is designed to soothe skin suffering from the effects of extreme weather, chlorinated water or even sunburn.

I’ve been using this sporadically since the start of the summer when my skin had been ravaged by illness and a hospital stay which left me unable to wash my face, let alone apply lotions and potions. It definitely takes my regular moisturiser up a notch, reducing redness and any feelings of discomfort. I won’t hesitate to repurchase when it finally runs out.

  • Do you have any tried and tested winter skincare favourites? I’m currently in the market for a new face mask, so I’d love to hear your recs.

Love Audrey
