I know, I know… so far I have sucked at balancing my new job with my old obsession.
Thing is, while I work my notice at the crummy day job I’m spreading myself quite thin, not to mention I’ve spent the last few days engulfed in a horrid hormonal/hayfever induced fog of tiredness. You can rest assured I have no plans to abandon my little spot on the Internet though.
So, like old friends who haven’t chatted in a while, lets have a good old catch up shall we…
I had fun baking more Snickerdoodles for Mothering Sunday. I filled a battered old OXO tin with them and wrapped it in tissue paper and pretty ribbon. Mum loved it {even though the kids stole most of her biscuits!}
The children {or should I say Mr.LA} proved just how well they know me by gifting me a new cook book and a delightful piece of kitchen gadgetry on Mother’s Day. Anyone for OJ?!
My parents came over for lunch on Sunday and I cooked a whole heap of food. There was Nigella’s Spring Chicken and more Marmalade Pudding Cake with lashings of cake gravy {that’s custard to you and me}. A mighty food coma did ensue.
I’ve been busy writing away for Love My Dress over the last couple of weeks and Annabel has published two of my features. The first celebrates the traditional ‘Going Away’ outfit and the second discusses the highs and lows of wedding DIY. Tomorrow I’m off on my first solo assignment. I’ll be visiting the fabulous Miss Bush Bridalwear in Ripley for a New York themed evening of fashion and cocktails. I’m being kitted out by none other than Miss Bush herself and I can’t wait to see what she has in mind for me.
At bedtime lately I’ve been winding down by flicking through the pages of Style Me Vintage by Naomi Thompson of Vintage Secret. It’s a brilliant read and I’d highly recommend it for anyone who likes to look to the past for sartorial inspiration. It’s certainly got me daydreaming about 50s frocks and the like. I feel a spot of retail therapy coming on…
Anyway, enough about me, how’s everything with you?

I feel exactly like you at the moment! I’m also currently seeing out my notice – 2 weeks left, not that I’m counting down! I can’t wait for a new start though.
Izzy looks so lovely with her new hair and what a fab idea for your Mum. Always nice to receive a homemade gift. Been enjoying your articles on the wedding blog xx
PS: Just read your latest blog at Love My Dress. I think you should seriously consider pitching for some work at some big wedding magazines – you write beautifully. If you need any contacts or tips, just get in touch: [email protected]
xx
Thank you so much Lauren, you have always been so encouraging when it comes to my writing. Your praise really means a lot. I will definitely drop you an email at some point in the future as I’m really keen to try and drum up some freelance work for myself.
Good luck getting through those last couple of weeks, at least we both know how good freedom is going to be when it’s all over! xxx
I love izzy with that bob hair cut! I remember when I went from almost bum length to the same kind of length. My mum took me in for a trim, & I kept going “a bit shorter…. a bit more… a bit more” so there weren’t any long locks for mum to keep either! poor her, she was much more upset than I thought she would be but she let me do it!
Hopefully the last few crummy job shifts fly by for you! I am counting the days till I go on a little holiday on the Norfolk Broads for a week! Then its back to reality and work (work gets busy this time of year!!) and wedding planning!
So glad that you are writing for a living!! xxx
PS I just went and read the DIY post and commented! x
Thank you for your lovely comment here and on Love My Dress! Your trip to Norfolk sounds wonderful, I love that part of the world. We spent quite a bit of time there as children. Enjoy the break before work gets crazy busy for you. xx
