• Waking up very slowly with multiple cups of tea and huge plate of fried eggs and bacon.
  • Having a very lazy morning. In fact, laziness was pretty much the theme of the entire weekend. It felt good to slow down.
  • Finally getting showered and dressed.
  • Making carrot and coriander soup for lunch. Except we’d run out of coriander so I used cumin.
  • Heading to the local museum for a wander.
  • Tending to a grazed knee {and bruised pride} after Izzy stumbled on the pavement.
  • Stealing an hour to myself for an ESPA facial. I’m still addicted to these treatments but, with no wedding to prepare my skin for, I’m rationing them more than I did last year. A little indulgence is good for the soul though.
  • Strolling home.
  • Cooking and eating Asian-style salmon and noodle broth for supper.
  • Letting Izzy stay up late for movie night. We watched Return of the Jedi and munched our way through two huge bags of popcorn.
  • Sipping vodka and cloudy lemonade.
  • Waking up with a teeny tiny hangover.
  • Eating another cooked breakfast.
  • Wishing Mr. LA didn’t have to work.
  • Actually managing to do some housework. Believe me when I tell you this is a rare occurrence.
  • Picking Izzy up from her Sunday drama class. I love the way she springs about afterwards, full of enthusiasm for everything she’s just done.
  • Buying posh sandwiches from Waitrose and eating them in our sun-filled front garden.
  • Listening to Florence and the Machine and baking Peaches and Cream Cupcakes with Izzy. These are another Hummingbird Bakery recipe and they’re delicious, perfect for summer {when it arrives}!
  • Feeling content.
  • Strolling to the park.
  • Finally persuading the children to come home because I was cold and craving a brew!
  • Eating supper with the children before coaxing them into bed.
  • Making the most of Mr. LA’s absence by watching Four Weddings and a Funeral.
  • Laughing at 90s fashion.
  • Staying up too late giggling with my husband. That boy can still make me laugh.
  • Wishing the children could understand the concept of a bank holiday lie in.
  • Giving my skin a break and having a makeup free day.
  • Building a den in the front room. I climbed in there with the children for a bit too. It’s strangely calming. I highly recommend it.
  • Making Nigella’s Dense Chocolate Loaf Cake. I left it to cool in it’s tin all afternoon so we could have it for pudding after our roast.
  • Sipping tea and half watching The Muppet Movie.
  • Poring over some of my favourite blogs. Currently loving The Startup Wife {Emily is lovely in real life too} and The Yvestown Blog {so much interiors inspiration}.
  • Feeling impatient.
  • Preparing a roast dinner.
  • Attempting homemade custard for the first time. It was stressful {note to self: do not try to make something that requires constant stirring while in the presence of a difficult toddler} and ultimately a failure. I think it split, it looked all lumpy and unappetising. Luckily, the cake tasted good naked. I had two slices.
  • Playing a good game with the children before bed. They pretend to be us and we pretend to be them. They both find it terribly amusing, and it’s quite enlightening to see their impressions of us. Perhaps I shout too much after all…
  • Looking forward to a quiet evening on the sofa in front of a movie with my husband.
