I love scrubs. Face scrubs, body scrubs, hand scrubs, foot scrubs… I just love the feeling of fresh, new glowing skin that they bring forth. I’ve tried many exfoliaters over the years and have developed some firm favourites. I generally prefer mechanical scrubs as opposed to the sort that use chemical or enzymic ingredients to slough away dead skin. However, they must be gentle and deliver a hearty dose of mousturisation as well.

Neals Yard Honey and Orange Facial Scrub

A beauty addict knows that they must really love a product if they’re actually compelled to repurchase it! I’m on to my second pot of this face scrub and I can honestly say it is the best I’ve tried. It’s very scrubby but as it has to be mixed with water before use you do have some control over this (i.e. the more water you add the less harsh it feels). I love the smell of this product, it reminds me of orange wafer biscuits! The scrub contains kaolin, a deep cleansing clay that is fantastic for drawing out impurities. When I use this scrub I always feel that helps clear the usual areas of congestion that I get on my nose and chin. It also eliminates the dreaded flakiness that I can be prone to. After use my skin is left feeling incredibly smooth and toned but never dry. I would attribute this to the honey which is a natural antiseptic and very softening for the skin.

Lush Buffy Body Butter I have an awful lot of love for Lush’s body butters. These are basically solid chunks of cocoa butter and shea butter designed to be smoothed over wet skin in the bath or shower. Buffy also contains ground rice, almonds and aduki beans to exfoliate and a blend of lavender and lemon essential oils to tone the skin. This product leaves my skin feeling lovely and smooth but also moisturised and firmer. I use it on my bum and thighs every morning. I don’t think it will cure the wobble but it makes me feel a lot better about it! I also like the story behind this product that they feature on the Lush website

‘Buffy the backside slayer’ was the full name of this product. Rowena invented it. When she first went to Brazil to set up Lush stores there, she was inspired by the Brazilian women on the beach, who rubbed sand and sun oil into their perfect bums and legs to help keep them smooth, and to improve circulation and banish cellulite. She was invited to join some Brazilian Lush folk in the Rio de Janeiro carnival (A very high honour) where she was to wear a small leotard based outfit. She wanted to look as good as those Brazilian women, so invented Buffy, based on the sand and oil combo, and adding a scent to remind her of those warm sunny Brazilian beaches. The name is from the famous American series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as this little bar is designed to slay all the bits you hate about your backside. Warner Bros have since asked us not to use this name, so we just call it Buffy. To those in the know it will always be the backside slayer.

Lush Aqua Mirablis Body Butter
I tend to use Buffy all year round but my preferred holiday body butter has to be Aqua Mirablis. This works on the same principle as Buffy but this bar is a lot scrubbier, due to the fact it contains ground almond shells, and has a more milky consistency as it melts on the skin. It also smells delicious, like digestive biscuits!

The one down side to using these cocoa butter based products on a regular basis is that the lovely melty butters that are so beneficial for your skin make a right mess of your shower! Our plug is constantly slow to drain as the cocoa butter clogs it up. Oh well, it’s nothing Mr. Muscle can’t handle and I feel it’s a small price to pay for having wonderful smooth skin!
