I had been blaming my recent inability to purchase clothes on the fact that I’ve had no choice but to attempt to shop with two small children in tow. However, this morning Little Miss LA was at school and the baby slept soundly in his pram yet I was still unable to buy.
Unfortunately, I’m not just shopping for pleasure… I have real needs in the wardrobe department. I’m seriously lacking autumn/winter attire as this time last year I was watching my waistline rapidly expand due to pregnancy. Moreover, I REALLY need new underwear. I’m ashamed to admit that I (who prior to this was a self-confessed underwear snob) am still wearing the plain black cotton shorts from M&S that saw me through pregnancy. I looked at pants today, I really did, but I just couldn’t commit to anything. My head wasn’t in the right place for purchases involving my post-pregnancy nether regions.
Dressing for motherhood can be a real headache. All outfits must be breastfeeding appropriate (which discounts all of my easy, go-to day dresses) There is also a need to avoid looking too dressed-up while making it abundantly clear that I’ve not let myself go completely. I guess I’m going for smart-casual… but what does that even mean? Here lies my main problem. I’m not even sure what I’m looking for as I wander aimlessly from shop to shop.
This probably explains why I returned home today, not with fabulous items that can be thrown together on a daily basis, but a smart dress that I might consider wearing to my graduation in January next year! Hopeless! I can’t even figure out how I want to style it! 
I did manage to brave the ritual humiliation that is trying garments on in a changing room. I suppose I should be proud of this if nothing else. What is it with the lighting in these places? Do the designers brainstorm the various ways they can make female shoppers feel completely crap about themselves?
Oh well. If in doubt look at shoes I say. I spied these beauties in Topshop. Not exactly buggy-pushing, school run appropriate but who cares… they’re red.
