Yesterday evening I had a friend over for wine, nibbles and a good old catch up. She has recently come out of a 4 year relationship and is feeling very raw and emotional. I was trying so hard to do a good job of listening and providing hugs at the right moments that I didn’t even notice that we’d polished off a whole 2 bottles of wine! This may not seem that excessive to any seasoned drinkers out there but (a) it was a school night (b) I’m still breastfeeding the boy and (c) post-children I cannot hold my drink at all… I am a lightweight.

So this morning I was feeling very sorry for myself. My boyfriend did a fabulous job of looking after me. He took our daughter to school, made me cups of tea and only took the piss out of me a tiny bit!

I was so relieved when 7pm came around and I was able to put the kids to bed and implement some recovery tactics. I have just enjoyed a wonderful relaxing bubble bath that has really helped ease the pain of my splitting headache and tired limbs. I used a new bubble bar from Lush called Christmas Eve (obviously from their LE Xmas range). It was beautiful, so relaxing… I feel positively sleepy. These bars are fabulous. For anyone unfamiliar with them you crumble a small amount of the bar under running water and you get tons and tons and tons of bubbles. They are far superior to any bottled bubble bath I’ve ever tried. This one has a gorgeous, dreamy yet delicate floral scent and it turns the bath water a stunning shade of tranquil blue. I love it.

While I was lounging in the tub I also applied their new LE fresh face mask. I’ve previously blogged about my love for Lush’s fresh facial treats so it goes without saying that I was keen to give this product a whirl. The idea of a seasonal face mask is something new and I personally think it’s quite clever. The combination of cold weather, central heating and the Christmas party season always leave my skin in a right state. Santa’s Rice Porridge looks very creamy in the tub but it does contain ground almonds and cranberries which give an incredibly gentle exfoliation. It smells quite fruity and tingled for a few seconds when I initially applied it. The mask is supposed to have some de-toxing properties, making it perfect for the festive season and my post-pinot grigio state. Having rinsed it off my skin feels incredibly smooth and soft. I also think the mask has a slight tightening effect (but not in the tight and dry sense if you know what I mean) which would make it ideal for a pre-party facial. I have to admit that I don’t love it as much as Oatifix and I think I’d prefer it to do a bit more in the way of hydration considering the time of year, weather etc. Nonetheless it was a pleasure to use.

I feel heaps better. Now I’m off to bed having spent the whole day vowing never to drink again!
