  • Waking up as Jesse tiptoed into our bedroom.
  • Leaving Mr L.A. asleep in bed while we snuck downstairs.
  • Pottering in the kitchen as Jesse played with his Lego.
  • Sipping tea.
  • Snuggling beneath a blanket on the sofa while we watched Paddington.
  • Giving Izzy a cuddle when she joined us downstairs.
  • Making waffles for breakfast.
  • Topping them with fresh strawberries and warm Nutella.
  • Having a slow, lazy morning. It was just what we needed.
  • Helping Izzy tidy her room.
  • Ordering a few bits of furniture to finally finish the space. Poor little bookworm needs more shelves!
  • Finally getting showered and dressed.
  • Eating salad and Quiche for lunch.
  • Arguing with Jesse about eating salad and Quiche for lunch. Don’t you just love a fussy eater?
  • Heading to Troopers Hill. Izzy cycled, Jesse scooted.
  • Watching the children ride around the track in the sunshine.
  • Following Jesse into the woods.
  • Picking up sticks and climbing trees.
  • Joining in with Jesse’s game of make-believe.
  • Studying the fruit bushes nearby. I can’t wait to go blackberry picking this year!
  • Heading home.
  • Popping into the garage to pick up some ice-lollies.
  • Lounging about in the yarden.
  • Preparing a huge curry for dinner. The Rogan Josh from Jamie Oliver’s 30 Minute Meals is so good.
  • Eating too much.
  • Putting the children to bed.
  • Drinking ginger beer and munching garlic-stuffed-olives while we watched a documentary on Netflix. Fellow cinephiles might enjoy Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau. If you happen to catch it, let’s talk about how horrible Val Kilmer sounds.
  • Collapsing into bed.
  • Waking up to the sound of Jesse squealing at the view from his bedroom window. It was the Bristol Balloon Fiesta this weekend and we were lucky enough to see a great swarm of them passing over our house around 7am.
  • Rushing into the attic to watch from the windows up there. I find hot air balloons completely mesmerising, don’t you?
  • Heading downstairs for breakfast and a cup of tea.
  • Working through a few chores.
  • Packing a suitcase for the children.
  • Jumping in the shower.
  • Pulling on my jeans and a Breton top.
  • Fixing lunch for my in-laws. I made Nigella’s Spanish Chicken with Chorizo and Potatoes {delicious} and a simple green salad with a creamy dressing made from 3 tbs natural yogurt, 2 tsp English mustard, the juice of a lemon and a generous handful of chopped chives {also delicious}.
  • Greeting our guests at the door.
  • Serving up lunch and chatting away.
  • Tucking into fresh strawberries and whipped cream for dessert.
  • Saying goodbye to the kids. They’re off to Derby for a week so we can get on with some work.
  • Not knowing quite what to do with ourselves.
  • Relishing the peace and quiet.
  • Feeling as if we should do something spontaneous like catch a movie or go out for dinner.
  • Realising that, with or without children, we rather like staying in on a Sunday evening.
  • Drinking tea and watching the American Office. Is it awful if I prefer it to the UK version?
  • Listening to Kate Bush while doing a spot of blogging.
  • Wondering what on earth we did with all this time before we had kids.
  • Planning an evening meal of leftovers accompanied by a large glass of red wine.
  • Missing the children already.
