I love the look of pure joy on Marilyn’s face in this image. She’s just married the baseball player Joe Dimaggio in a judge’s chambers at San Fransisco City Hall and she certainly looks pleased with herself!
When we were thinking about setting the date for our own wedding I discovered that Marilyn and Joe were married on the very day we had in mind, January 14th. I adore the love story attached to this couple who wed in 1954 having initially met on a blind date at a Hollywood restaurant. Although they divorced their friendship never wavered. Joe Dimaggio didn’t remarry and for the 20 years following Marilyn’s death he had roses delivered twice a week to the star’s final resting place.
Mr. LA and I had our first kiss on January 13th 2004 at his 23rd birthday party. In 2012 the 14th falls on a Saturday so the date seems particularly appropriate for my dream winter wedding. This means we’ve got 18 months to plan our very own glamorous day.
My plans for this evening are far from glamorous mind. Snuggling with Mr. LA on the sofa is top of my list of priorities. How about you ladies? Any glamorous plans for this evening or the weekend beyond?

Ah what a romantic story, i have actually been a very good mummy this afternoon/ evening and been making cupcakes with my 2 year old so the rest of the evening will be spent cleaning up because the mess in the kitchen is shocking lol.
Then cooking dinner washing up and then flopping onto the sofa i think. Not very glamorous either xx
PS not sure if youve already joined but i’m having a surprise surprise giveaway on my blog if you fancy a peek x
January 14th is my husband’s birthday 🙂 A perfect day for a wedding, I’d say! xxx
@May It is terribly exciting isn’t it! No doubt I’ll bore you all with the plans in no time!!
@LissyLou Ooooooh I love The Nuns Story, haven’t watched it in ages. I adore Disaronno too but I’m on the G&T tonight!!

For some reason I can never comment on your blog – it always throws up an error message but today I’m not at my house and it’s letting me comment – yay! (but also very strange)
So very happy for you, your engagement story is beautiful and so is that ring.
I can’t wait to follow your wedding plans and I’ll have someone to talk to about weddings too haha! You should check out this site, it’s amazing: http://www.oncewed.com/
I love winter weddings, can’t wait to see what you have planned!
Lovely picture – winter is quite a romantic time, I always think. Our anniversary is in January too, and it’s always something to look forward to after Christmas x
That’s such a darling photo of her! She has the most spectacular expressions. I love to see her looking happy. She was so radiant then.
Ooh, you’re having a winter wedding! That’s always been my dream. Most people don’t understand why. But it’s such a quiet and intimate season. I think it’s perfect.
No plans for me except beaching my giant pregnant tummy on the sofa!
Planning a wedding is so exciting. A winter wedding is a nice choice too, its a bit different. We got married July last year in a local boutique hotel, and we also had 18 months of planning before- beware, the closer the date gets, the quicker the time goes!
I’m sure you’ll have a ball choosing all the flowers (one of the most creative and fun things, we found- we had loads of them with big candles, and it completely perfumed the room), the dress (obviously!) and all those little touches.
Very happy for you. Go get yourself some bridal magazines!!!

Love the photo of Marilyn, and love the romantic story…makes my heart flutter 🙂
A winter wedding will be perfect, I can envisage it all now 🙂 The dates seem so perfect too <3
Like @Annoymous Girl, all I did last night was try and get comfortable with my big pregnant tummy! It was Colin and I’s 6 year anniversary (of being together) yesterday, so we had a nice takeaway dinner, but I went to bed at 9pm because I was just so exhausted!

@Magpie Sparkles Well, I’m so glad you were able to comment this time!
That website is fabulous, thank you. A link for a link… I’m loving http://www.lovemydress.net and because I seem to find it easier to think about the minute details as opposed to the bigger picture http://www.coxandcox.co.uk has become a firm favourite of mine too, so many beautiful things!!
@elephantjuice I’m sure I’ll bore you silly with the pans in no time!
@Bristol Beauty Blog I think winter is very romantic too, plenty of opportunity to snuggle up in front of a warm fire etc. I agree, it will def help ease the pain of the post xmas come down! I’ll have to lay off the mince pies that year thought!!
@Casee Marie I couldn’t agree more, def very intimate. I just hope we don’t have too much snow otherwise the guests might not make it. A few flakes can cause complete chos here in the UK!
@Anonymous Girl Oh I hope you managed to get comfy! Yes, I like the fact that it’s a little bit unusual. I can imagine the time is going to fly. I’ve got my MA to do in the mean time too so things could get a little crazy. Sounds like you’ll be able to give me a few planning tips! And I’ve already got an enormous stack of wedding mags… bring on the wedding porn!!
@Laura Oh I real feel for you sweetie! Hope you’re feeling a little more rested today. I hope you’re right about the wedding… it’s all just so exciting isn’t it!!
