I’m certainly not the 1st bride-to-be hoping to channel a little Grace Kelly elegance and style on my big day. Grace’s marriage to Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956 resulted in one of the most iconic weddings of the 20th Century. She made the transition from Hollywood film actress to princess wearing a stunning ivory gown of silk taffeta and lace, a style coveted and emulated by many, many brides ever since.I adore Grace’s wedding dress, I really do (particularly the sleeves, I have a thing about sleeves on wedding dresses.. long sleeves, 3/4length sleeves, pretty little cap sleeves…) but the gown I can’t get out of my head right now is one she wore for her role in the movie ‘High Society’.

How handsome does Frank look? Although I reckon it’s hard for a guy not to look hot in a tux!

I love the swishy skirt, the delicate fabric, the intricate embroidery and the gauzy sleeves (see, I told you I had a thing about sleeves). I was lucky enough to see the dress ‘in the flesh’ (so to speak) at the Grace Kelly exhibition at the V&A last month. I can assure you it is just as stunning as it appears in the movie, if not more so. Here are some images of the real thing (not mine, Google is my friend).
Aaaaaaahhhh *sigh*… it’s so beautiful. I can’t wait to try on some more wedding dresses, I have a much clearer idea of what I’m looking for now.

Ladies, what do you think of these dresses and Grace Kelly’s style? Do you have a favourite dress worn by one of your favourite movie icons?
