I’ve realised I have some maternal issues when it comes to chopping my son’s beautiful blond locks. I just can’t bring myself to allow the hairdresser to do more than snip at his fringe. As long as he can see where he’s going the rest stays. Personally, I love long hair on boys (and men as it happens, when it’s done right you understand).
However, it’s still a fairly controversial choice and appears to create no end of confusion. Jesse is often mistaken for a little girl (and I’m guessing the fact his name could actually belong to female doesn’t help either).
I think this bothers Mr. LA far more than it bothers me. I know he’s a boy, couldn’t really care less about anyone else. I just politely correct them. The same thing happened in reverse with Izzy as I never really went in for the typical girly clothing. I adore brightly coloured clothes so both the children have worn orange, red, turquoise, green, purple (my favourite shade for Jess, he looks incredibly handsome in purple). I soon realised that if you don’t dress a little girl in pink she becomes a boy by default in other people’s eyes. I found this so amusing that I took to calling her ‘Isaboy’!
Of course, Isabel quickly reached an age where all she wanted to wear was pink. I remember shopping with her when she was probably no older than 3. I pointed out a gorgeous green and white polka dot dress and asked her if she would like mummy to buy it for her. Her response: ‘No thank you mummy, not my colour’. Clear sense of personal style from a very early age, I can’t wait for the teenage years.
Anyway, it would be fair to say that Mr. LA isn’t particularly taken with Jesse’s current hairstyle. While I’d like to think he’s on his way to growing a lovely crop of surfer hair, Daddy thinks his boy ‘bob’ makes him look like Heman.
He says this like it’s a bad thing….
Cute, no? And what a style inspiration!
I’m terrified that Mr. LA will fulfil his threat to sneak Jesse to the barbers behind my back. He’s got the rest of his life for severe boy haircuts and wax and spiking it up and whatever else it is men do to their barnet.
Unfortunately, the little man is still under the weather, and no where near as smiley as he is in the picture above. Lots of sleepy snuggles on the sofa were all that we manged today. So, long hair on little boys, love it or hate it?

I love long hair on wee boys. There is nothing worse than a tiny boy with gelled up short hair! My wee brother had long blonde ringlets when he was younger, it was so cute! He has had long hair on and off ever since though!

I think it’s super cute, but I see where Mr. LA is coming from! My brother looked very girly until he was maybe 12 because of his big eyes and lips and longer blondish curls! But when he reached puberty and his nose and jaw grew bigger as well there was no mistaking him for a girl 🙂
Honestly I don’t like long hair on little boys but I think it’s what you’re used to. I was raised within a family of buzz cuts 🙂
Ultimately it’s a mother’s choice until the child is able to make their own. xx
i love long hair on boys. My little boy has fairly long hair and my eldest had long hair up until he was 6 when he decided himself he wanted it cut. x
Thank you for the comments ladies! See, it certainly divides opinion!!
@Arlene Funnily enough I always look at your pics of your boys and think how smart they look in comparison to my little boy!! I’m glad you agree that it’s a mother’s choice though… the Mister has absolutely nothing to do with it!!! Those locks are staying for now!

Oh he looks gorgeous – I’m the same as you, Daddy doesn’t even get consulted where my girls’ hair is concerned!
I think Jesse is impossibly handsome and cute, no matter what his hair is like! It’s 100% Mummies choice! xxx
