The WeekendThe WeekendThe WeekendThe WeekendThe Weekend The Weekend

  • Waking up to find the children cuddled up in bed with us.
  • Drinking tea and reading on the sofa while the children watched a movie.
  • Making scrambled eggs for breakfast.
  • Tidying the kitchen and cleaning the bathroom ahead of visitors arriving at lunchtime.
  • Taking a long shower.
  • Slipping on an old skirt and my favourite black cotton t-shirt from GAP.
  • Baking snickerdoodles.
  • Greeting our friends with my hands still covered in sugar and cinnamon.
  • Catching up. Rich was best man at our wedding and we haven’t managed to see him and his boyfriend much over the last year. It was lovely spending time together again.
  • Making sandwiches with the homemade bread the boys brought with them.
  • Working at home while the others headed off to visit the museum and grab a coffee in town.
  • Giving the children their supper.
  • Listening from downstairs as Mr. LA and Rich put them to bed.
  • Preparing dinner. I served chicken skewers, homemade satay sauce and a noodle salad using a recipe from Jamie’s 30 Minute Meals. There was plenty of garlic, chili, lime and coriander which are among my favourite ingredients to cook with.
  • Sipping cocktails. To make a change from our usual Cosmopolitans, Mr. LA put together The King’s Summer Cup. I’m a little bit in love with The King’s Ginger, and this particular concoction was delicious.
  • Eating too much.
  • Laughing till my ribs hurt and my eyes watered.
  • Collapsing into bed with every intention of sleeping, but finding myself unable to resist flicking through a few pages of The Help before switching the light off.
  • Listening to my husband snoring softly beside me as I stayed up too late reading.
  • Longing for a lie-in.
  • Letting Jesse watch cartoons on my Kindle in bed with us while we both drifted back to sleep.
  • Drinking tea and eating toast.
  • Clearing the kitchen just in time to start cooking again. I made Nigella’s Italian Roast Chicken {again} and {another} Chocolate Olive Oil Cake. I really like the simplicity of these recipes, and the results are always well received by whoever I happen to be feeding.
  • Showering while the chicken was in the oven.
  • Feeling content as we all ate and chatted together.
  • Loving the sight of my children curled up on the sofa with our friends.
  • Waving our guests off.
  • Feeling relieved as I climbed back into my pyjamas.
  • Wishing Mr. LA didn’t have to head out for a few hours.
  • Tidying up as I fed the children and packed them off to bed.
  • Deciding I was too exhausted to cook.
  • Blogging.
  • Settling down for a {rather disappointing} curry in front of old episodes of Extras.
  • Relaxing on the sofa.
  • Reading in bed till my eyes grew heavy and the words seemed to slip sleepily down the page.
