I had big plans for blogging this evening but after a rather tearful phone conversation with my Mum, this is all I have in me. My Great Aunt passed away peacefully this evening in a hospital in London. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this week having been inexplicably unwell since before Christmas. She was surrounded by people that love her including her sister (my Grandmother) and my Mum.
My Great Aunt was a truly wonderful woman. She was an incredibly talented violinist, amazingly well travelled, with just the right amount of eccentricity about her. I always adored listening to her fascinating tales from her many trips abroad. Way back in the sixties she paid £10 for a boat ticket to Australia and embarked on an adventure that involved teaching music at a well known girls school in Melbourne. Imagine how brave she must have been to do that alone? My mum can remember waving her off, devastated by the prospect of not seeing her favourite aunt for what would have felt like an absolute eternity to such a small child.
I have my whole family in my heart and mind this evening. Rest in peace Liz. We miss you already.
