The weekend started rather ominously with Friday evening spent tending to a very poorly Jesse. I won’t divulge all the gory details, lets just say there was vomit, and lots of it.

Needless to say, after getting very little sleep, Saturday morning got off to a very slow start. Multiple cups of tea were required and even then none of us were up for anything too strenuous. Mr. LA dashed into town for what I suspect was last minute mother’s day shopping, I worked my way through load after load of washing (the vomit defiled every single piece of Jesse’s cot bedding, and a few teddys too), we ate a light lunch of stuffed pitta bread followed by fresh fruit and Izzy spent the afternoon at the park with a friend.

I did sneak off around 4pm for another wonderfully indulgent ESPA facial. It was fabulous, I really love the way the therapist is able to tailor the treatment to your specific needs. My skin is currently having a major freak out so I essentially had a totally different experience to the previous facial last month. This time she concentrated on balancing my skin, calming redness and leaving it smooth and hydrated. The treatment also includes an AMAZING head massage that is so deeply relaxing I always nod off! Bliss.

Early nights were the order of the day all round on Saturday evening, the children were so ready for sleep eating dinner was a real struggle for them. Poor Mr. LA was out on the shoot until 2am but I headed to bed at around 9pm with my copy of ‘The Great Gatsby’ and a glass of pink bubbly (perfect nightcap).

The God of Sleep must have been watching over us as the children didn’t emerge until after 8 this morning. Arguably the best possible start to Mother’s Day imaginable. I felt so rested.

Once the children had poured into our bed I was showered with gifts. I felt very spoilt. There was lots of posh chocolate…
… and a new recipe book…Can’t wait to attempt the Mini Mojito Cupcakes. My favourite cocktail in a cake = genius.
Of course, it’s the homemade cards that mean the most. I don’t think I’ve ever loved a misspelling quite so much.Later, we had the pleasure of watching Izzy’s end of term performance at her Sunday morning drama class. I visibly swelled with maternal pride as she sang and danced on stage. The look of concentration on her face while she sings is too precious for words.

We were joined by my Mum and Bonus Dad for lunch. I cooked a whole menu from my beloved Jamie’s Meals in 30 Minutes book.

Chicken pie (made with quorn), smashed carrots and peas…… followed by mixed berries soaked in elderflower cordial served with shortbread and sweet vanillary, (slightly over-) whipped cream…It was delicious and we all ate far too much. The plan was to take a stroll to the park in order to walk some of it off but just as we left the house the heavens opened. We only made it as far as M&S in town so we indulged in a spot of shopping (new summery outfit for Izzy) before returning home for cups of tea and cuddles with the children on the sofa.

The rain dictated an afternoon spent indoors. Izzy drew pictures (like Monet and his blue period, she’s in a princess period at the moment) while Jesse pottered in the (toy) kitchen. The children enjoyed a lazy Sunday evening dinner of beans on toast before bed. Mr. LA and I are about to indulge in a cheeky take-away and I fully intend to lounge in the bath for at least an hour later.

Dreading Monday and all that goes with it all ready.

How was your weekend?
