If I’ve ever needed a dose of wedding-related loveliness, it’s today. I’m up to my neck in research for a paper about sexual violence in 1970s cinema. Clearly, there really is a limit to how many rape scenes a girl can stomach in one day.

Last weekend my friend Suzy popped over with her fiance for tea and cake. Despite the fact that she’s completely consumed with her own wedding plans (they’re getting hitched June 4th), she was kind enough to bring the artwork she’s done for our wedding invitations over with her.

I literally squealed when I saw the finished design! I am so pleased with it. Suzy somehow managed to decipher my fairly vague and incredibly inarticulate ramblings about what I had in mind and turn it into a piece of beautiful hand drawn art.

I’ve decided not to feature the finished piece on my blog until after the invitations have been mailed as, believe it or not, I’ve revealed my deep dark blogging secret to a few of my ‘real’ friends recently and I don’t want to spoil the surprise for them. I hope you understand.

I will tell you that it’s similar to the artwork in this picture, although ours is more angular and art-deco inspired. Pretty, no?Suzy has created a pen and watercolour border with art-deco style roses and ferns in opposite corners. She used watercolours to add touches of pale grey, green and pink… a sort of washed-out version of our wedding colours.

All that’s left for us to do now is add the text in photoshop. I’m loving this image from Oh So Beautiful Paper. The fonts are perfect and I adore the pale grey ink on ivory card stock. I’ve already taken a trip to the local printers to stroke their selection of paper, I do love stationary so! Our intention is to have the main invitation, a separate, smaller card with accommodation and travel info and then an RSVP postcard for guests to return to us. I love the idea of bundling it all up with bakers twine, ribbon or lengths of vintage lace. Although we toyed with having guests RSVP via email, I like the idea of receiving a bundle of response cards in the mail just a little too much. Still, I am trying to be a little eco-conscious and a postcard will eliminate the need for another envelope. I’m hoping to create a mock-vintage postcard featuring a black and white image of Pinewood Studios (our venue) on the front. We’ll use a custom address stamp to print our address on each of them so guests will simply have to affix a stamp and pop it in the postbox. Here’s some inspiration…
What do you think ladies? Please do tell me about your own wedding invitations or share excellent sources of stationary porn for me to indulge my paper fetish further!
