- Missing Mr. LA. Loads. He was away filming all weekend at the Budleigh Literary Festival. In the process of wielding his camera he was able to meet some pretty famous authors and listen to a reading by the Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy. He came home with a signed copy of a book by Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall {that’s right, Hugh’s Mum}, ‘The Ministry of Food’. Really looking forward to attempting some wartime recipes.
- Taking the children to the library. Great way to kill a few hours on a Saturday morning. Izzy and Jesse really enjoy picking out their items to borrow, and we always come home with a huge stack of picture books and story CDs. Izzy is really into Enid Blyton at the moment and likes to read a few pages of The Enchanted Wood, before listening to Malory Towers while she falls asleep.
- Being consumed by a sudden, uncontrollable urge to make soup. It must be autumn.
- Making soup. This recipe for speedy sweet potato soup with coconut was delicious, incredibly easy and perfect served with mini garlic naan breads.
- Feeling thankful for Jesse’s nap time.
- Taking a stroll to the park with the children during a brief burst of sunshine, in what was otherwise a very wet Saturday.
- Snuggling up on the sofa to watch Mary Poppins. Hot chocolate, fluffy marshmallows, and toffee popcorn provided sustenance throughout the afternoon.
- Bracing myself for mess as the children settled down to make their own pizzas for tea.
- Marvelling at just how many olives Jesse can fit in his mouth at once.
- Drinking wine and talking wedding flowers with my friend and florist, Hayley.
- Getting very excited about bouquets and table arrangements. I can’t wait to see all our plans come to life. There will be roses and lilies and carnations and eucalyptus and brunia… {have a peak at my inspiration board on Pinterest here if you want a clearer idea of what we’re hoping for}
- Loving the children for sleeping to almost 8am.
- Hating the rain.
- Dropping Izzy at drama class and dashing to Starbucks with Jesse for hot chocolate and a danish pastry.
- Feeling very shaken after arriving home to find our front door wide open. I was worried we’d been burgled or that we might be about to disturb an intruder. Luckily our neighbours were home and could come into the house with me. Thankfully nothing was awry. I probably just failed to close the door properly, meaning it could be blown open by the wind. Still, scary stuff.
- Hugging my Mum when she arrived a short while later and then sipping tea to calm myself down.
- Shopping for my Mum’s wedding outfit. We came home empty handed but I think she might be closer to finding what she wants.
- Thinking that 6-7pm must be Jesse’s witching hour. It was tantrum central at our house during supper, bath time and right before bed. What fun *insert sarcasm emoticon*.
- Breathing a BIG sigh of relief when Mr. LA came in through the front door.
- Flinging my arms round his neck and hugging him. For a long time.
- Planning a lazy evening on the sofa and an early{ish} night.

I love making pizza with C, even though the cheese does get everywhere! 🙂
Glad Mr LA is home, have a lovely evening.
Awww! I LOVE these posts. You are going to have a lovely record of all the little things we often forget about! Jesse is too cute! Enchanted Wood! ahh, memories:) xx
Oh my gosh, how frightening about your door! So glad everything was okay, my heart would’ve been in my mouth! I’ve spent the day making soups and casseroles so yep, it’s definitely autumn! xxx
Just re-read my comment and there were a lot of ! in there – oops (!)
That pizza looks great!! you have inspired me to make pizza with the boys this week xx
Mmm, that sweet potato soup looks deeelish! How scary about your front door, hope you’ve relaxed now! Curling up on the sofa watching Mary poppins sounds lovely – one of my favourite films! X
You watched Mary Poppins this weekend … I’m so jealous! I wish I had thought of that! X
So funny, I was just saying to Matt this morning that I had an urge to watch Mary Poppins with the kids! Must remedy that next weekend 🙂
I’m also very glad that I’m not the only mother that was tested to the limits today. Noah was what I can only describe as intolerable. If he wasn’t gurning he was moaning and nothing placating him. It’s only as I’ve put him to bed that I’ve realised he seems to have a runny nose and obviously a cold starting on him. Naturally I now feel horribly guilty for secretly thinking him a little brat all day. The joys of motherhood!! xx
Malory Towers! Wow, so pleased little girls are still reading that series. I had every book and simply adored it. If Izzy starts asking to go to boarding school, you’ll know to blame Enid Blyton x
p.s. my collection looked like this: http://bit.ly/pH5DBF -bit different to the modern version!
@Grace London Pizza is always a great success with my 2. Izzy has requested it for supper again tomorrow as she has a friend over. Will be ready with the cleaning gear!
@The Pampered Sparrow Thank you! I love writing these posts and reading back through older ones. Like you say, it’s a great record.
@Lollipop It was scary! So glad everything was OK. {I’ll forgive you the !!! because you’re so lovely!!!!!}
@LissyLou Oh good, I’m sure the boys will love it.
@LionLovingTiger You’ll have to watch it this weekend instead. So much fun 😀
@Arlene The joys of motherhood indeed! It’s always nice to know you’re not alone, sometimes you worry you have produced the naughtiest child in the world!
@Lel Oh yes, mine were the same! Izzy is well and truly hooked. She was incredibly impressed when I told her my Godmother was a boarder as a child. Less so when I admitted the school probably didn’t have ‘towers’!
Apologies for the late comment, I always read, as you know, but if I’m on my phone its not as easy to comment 🙁
Anyhow, aside from the tantrum and the door fiasco, your weekend sounds heavenly as always, and full of family fun, and food 🙂 xxx
