- Waking up in an eerily quiet house. The children were off at my parent’s place for the weekend and it’s always strange when they’re away. Nice, but strange.
- Dragging ourselves to the local bus station.
- Riding the Megabus to London. Oh the glamour!
- Arriving at Victoria coach station in the rain.
- Catching the tube to Ealing Broadway.
- Having a quick wander round our old haunt. I grew up in this part of the capital and Mr. LA and I met there almost a decade ago. Cue plenty of nostalgia and lamentations along the lines of ‘oh, it’s not what it used to be’.
- Grabbing a cheeky McDonalds for lunch. It was grim {naturally} but we were pressed for time and it was raining and I was HUNGRY.
- Heading to my Mum’s flat.
- Sipping tea and relaxing.
- Relishing the opportunity to get ready for a night out very, very slowly, alcoholic beverage in hand, and without a toddler clambering for attention at my feet.
- Cursing the murky weather.
- Loving my LK Bennett heels. How I wish I could afford a pair in every colour!
- Taking the tube to Hammersmith.
- Getting lost.
- Having a teeny tiny domestic. As you do.
- Finally finding our way to The Blue Anchor for the engagement party of two very dear friends. Sarah {of bridesmaid fame, see picture above} and Dom have been together for 7 years, ever since he walked her home from Izzy’s christening party. They are two of my favourite people in the world and I was so glad we could be there to celebrate with them.
- Devouring a plate of chips.
- Drinking wine.
- Ensuring the bride-to-be never had an empty glass.
- Catching up with old friends.
- Eating cupcakes {baked by the bride-to-be}.
- Realising just how much I miss everyone.
- Checking my phone in the bathroom and discovering a very exciting email.
- Wishing we didn’t have to leave.
- Dreading the early start the following morning.
- Making it to Victoria for 9.30am despite the hangover.
- Nibbling on a doughnut while reading Grazia.
- Sleeping most of the way home.
- Feeling glad to be home.
- Grabbing a quick power nap before the children were delivered back to us.
- Enjoying cuddles when they were.
- Somehow finding the energy to cook Sunday dinner.
- Marvelling at the restorative powers of roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy.
- Putting two very sleepy children to bed.
- Struggling to keep my eyes open.
- Actually managing an early night for once.
- Dreaming of London, good friends and new adventures.

I loved this post, and very much agree with you: it does feel strange when children are not around. Good-don’t get me wrong!-but strange.
And the magic of getting dressed without someone pulling your tights the opposite way or stealing you Dior Amber Diamond AND Laura Mercier eyeshadow (cheecky cheeky daughter, I have) is almost untrue! x
p.s. When I say steal, I mean loose. Thank God they are very cute little humans! x
Glad you know what I mean about the kids being away. The house feels so empty and the peace and quiet is terribly alien too! I do love getting ready without the pressures of looking aftre little ones too. Takes me back to ‘my youth’ when getting dressed up was often the best bit of any night out! xxx
A fantastic weekend, despite the drizzle! Many congratulations to Sarah and Dom, I’m sure they’ll be turning to you for some wedding planning tips! xxx
I did have a moment of ‘Oh! My HAIR!’ when I first saw the rain, but it was such a wonderful evening it didn’t matter in the end! I am so excited for their wedding, I hope they hurry up and get organising soon 😉 xxx
Once again you’ve managed to capture your weekend perfectly….or at least thats impression you give us all! It seems like you had a whale of a time, and despite not having ever lived in London, I still get thoughts of ‘ohhh, to live there now….’ (I’ve been obsessed with moving there since I was 15!)
Although, I now want both a Krispy Kreme and a McDonalds. Very bad of me!
Gutted you left out “20 minute phone call with my mentor rambling at me whilst I tried to fall asleep.”
Yes to the new adventures. Oh the memories of Hammersmith!
